Highly recommended. Honest, knowledgeable and competent, owner John Radice is a Saab Master Mechanic with extensive experience and intimate knowledge of the cars. I love my Saab; he does too. He has Computer Diagnostic equipment for a wide range of foreign and domestic cars so he can reliably diagnose and fix problems for a much more reasonable price than at the dealership. Have been going there for 7 years and friends who have gone there have also been very happy. My girlfriend has also had him inspect used cars before purchase. He did the work thoroughly, for a reasonable fee and was extremely accommodating with scheduling. He treated her very well, which was completely different to how the car dealers did. My air conditioner went out entirely this summer while I was living and working in New Jersey, where the temperatures were in the humid high nineties. Because I normally reside and work in way upstate NW New York State, I had no clue about mechanics in the area around North Bergen, Hackensack and Edgewater, NJ. After checking CarTalk to see if anyone had a recommendation for the area (and discovering that there weren't any), a more general web research turned up J.R.'s, where a customer had offered a solid recommendation. These guys are not only skilled mechanically, they're entirely professional, intelligent and have a sense of humor. J.R. is an enthusiastic, helpful, attentive shop owner who knows his stuff. (My Dad was a mechanic, so I spent a lot of time in the garage with him in my youth) The problem with my car wasn't the usual air conditioning repair, but J.R.'s analytical capabilities are terrific, right down to the small front-end collision a year or so ago that the car suffered with another driver that resulted in just enough damage to the condenser to fail. And we'd had this car to the dealer in our city and to our mechanic more than once to try to evaluate and fix the problem. A couple of things were tried but the air system never functioned properly despite their efforts. They didn't have any ideas why it still was not working. When it got really hot and there was only hot air circulating in the car, I often felt like my only resort would be a large punch and a hammer to make a vent in the floor of the car. Now I'm a bit poorer but I'm driving in comfort. And just talking with J.R. and his employees, I have a greater appreciation for the history and textures of northern NJ! (I'm not used to paying NJ/NYC repair prices, but his rates are quite reasonable for the area.)

I've taken my Mini Cooper to them a number of times and have found John and Jose to be great mechanics as well as fair and honest. They diagnosed an oxygen sensor problem and didn't charge me even though I took it to the dealer for its replacement (was covered under extended warranty). They also got me back on the road within 24 hours of being towed to them for a broken flywheel. And, more recently, John found me a new after-market exhaust system so I can go another 10 years with my low-mileage MINI. He's still my "local" mechanic even after moving away from the shop.
