As a college student in Charlotte North Carolina, and more importantly as a Volkswagen Jetta owner, Autoworks unlimited has been amazing. The shop was recomended to me by a friend and I wouldn't go anywhere else. He's saved my Jetta and my friend Sarah's BMW countless times, and done fantastic work for us, always cheap and sometimes free because we're in college. He gives free estimates, he explains to you exactly whats wrong and what he's doing, the shop is so clean you could raise a family in it, and he seems to specialize in everything. He's done everything from change oil to timing belts, cleaning mass air flow sensors, fixing exhaust shields, re-wiring motherboards and computer diagnostics. His name is Dale and he's certainly the primary mechanic, and the only one I've ever seen there. I'd take a bullet for him, that's how good he is.

Called the shop based on review and comments here. Needed the 20,000 mile service on 2004 VW Golf TDI. Local dealer needed 2 weeks advance appointment and estimated $350. Autoworks got to it in less than 1 week and charged $110. Got a fully itemized bill complete with the VW part numbers. Wife took the car in and was happy with the service and time.

My daughter and her boyfriend were on vacation and driving to Florida. Her 1998 Jetta TDI started acting up and they had to stop. She called me (at 1:35 in the morning)and said "what should I do?!" I went on to the Mechanics Files, saw this shop and said "get a room and have AAA tow it in the morning." She did, leaving the car there as they proceeded with a rental car. The shop checked all the codes, cleared them, and then tested the car to ensure it was performing within normal parameters. The throttle position sensor (this is a drive by wire car) was not quite in specs, and Dale researched this. I called him and he answered and said, "I'm on the phone with Volkswagen, can you hold?" I said sure. VW had never heard of this going bad on a TDI nor had Dale. He said that they had been driving the car around and the check engine light hadn't come back on and it seemed to be running fine. He also said that the throttle position sensor would need to be ordered from Germany (why would anyone have one in stock - they NEVER go bad!) and it cost $700 plus $300 to put in. Then Dale said, "I'd feel comfortable with your daughter picking up the car and driving back home to Virgina and not replacing the sensor. It may never bother her again." So my daughter, affectionately known as Casey the Car Killer, and I agreed. She picked up the car, drove it home, and hasn't had a problem since. So they are extremely honest at this shop and have common sense, too!

I have been using Dale and Autoworks for several years. It all started when my wife talked me into a LR Discovery instead of a min van. Bad mistake. Discos stink and require a lot of work. Dale is an expert in those too and did great work. He even let me order used parts online, which he installed. After finally selling that beast to some poor fella, He has worked on my Xterra and Quest. I cannot recommend him highly enough. VERY honest, upfront on pricing, and timely.

The best auto repair facility I've ever found - and I'm in my 70s and have lived in four different states. The owner is terrific, the mechanics are more than competent, the rates are reasonable, and they do the work when they said they would. There's not much else to ask for in an auto mechanic (except possibly to share the brownies that customers might have baked for them).

Having car trouble is traumatic! Dale gets it, he understands that he can't always overcome the fear in the hearts of those who come in his door! He's methodical, parts plus labor and out the door, no tricks or added charges! Straight, best available consultation for your repairs! It's the first time in my 70 years that I sensed that someone actually felt the pain of the customer!
