Finding a good mechanic is like finding a good doctor. We trust our cars (2 BMW's with 100k+ miles) are well cared for, and the appropriate work is done to keep them in tip top shape.

I have an '01 BMW M5 that I love to baby. I'm an experienced home mechanic and track my car regularly; the only time my car ever goes to the shop is for tire mounting/balancing and alignments. I bought a set of high performance summer tires from Tire Rack, and had them shipped to German Motor Werks because they were listed as a preferred installer. It took me several days to get an appointment scheduled, it ended up being the middle of the next week before I could even get in for an appointment. The mounting/balancing took a whole day, which they blamed on the sidewalls being too stiff. These are normal road tires (Bridgestone Potenza RE-11's), I don't know why a shop that touts itself as a German import specialist would be unable to mount performance 18" tires. Fast forward a month or two, and I have a flat in one of my tires, which is covered by Tire Rack's Road Hazard Protection. I called German Motor Werks, and the service manager was completely clueless about what I was talking about. She was rude and unhelpful, even condescending when she was asking what size tire I needed (when I told her I believed I needed a 275/35R18, she responded "you believe?"). I was shocked with how unhelpful she was when I was willing to give the shop my continued business. When I told her I was going to take the tire else where because I didn't feel that the shop was going to help me resolve my issue, she hung up on me! Needless to say, I won't be returning. I am active with the BMWCCA, and at the last event I was at I heard nothing but bad things about the shop. My last couple of experiences with them confirm this. I welcome German Motor Werks to respond to this review.
