There's always a waiting list. They are very conscientious and will always consult with you if a repair looks to be more expensive than you might want. They will also do the cheaper thing when that is all that is needed -- I once thought I had severe transmission problems, and over the phone they agreed. But when I arrived for my appointment, a quick test drive and the mechanic diagnosed a plugged fuel filter and an expensive transmission repair turned into a $38 fuel filter replacement. Best of all, that was the problem. Later on, and here's one for your puzzler: Our 1987 Suburban kept dying. I had something else I had to do on that particular day, the day of the appointment at R&D, so my wife took it in and waited (there is no public transportation out here -- the garage is five miles one way from a thriving metropolis of 1,600 and 15 miles the other from another one of 1,500). They replaced the fuel filter again (we get a lot of dirty gas in this part of Missouri), you should see the crud in the filter, almost completely plugged up. So she drove home and it died just as she pulled into a gas station. She called me, I called them and they came out fiddled with it and it started right up. They left, she left, got about fifty feet and it died again. They came back again, by now it was well after closing, and this time they towed the Suburban back to their shop and a friend gave my wife a ride home. They tested it and soon discovered that it only died when making a breaking sharp turn at low speed. Everything checked out, the electrical, the fuel delivery, everything! They finally pulled the gas tank and discovered that the special rubber baffle thingie inside the tank had come loose, and would completely block fuel from getting to the internal pump in just those certain conditions. They had to cut it into pieces to get it out. They didn't charge us for the first trip to rescue my wife or for the towing. Total bill came in under $300.

Interesting that this site comes up so prominently, and yet the last review for these guys was 18 years ago. I know as someone in business that unless you're actively asking people for reviews, you may not get the positive ones, but if someone's disgruntled, they may well write about you. The lack of positive reviews kinda shows they're not pushing folks to write reviews. And the lack of negative reviews says they don't have very many unsatisfied customers. So... personal experience. I would echo some of the things said by the other reviewer 18 years ago. Though I haven't had the exact same experiences, we've taken several cars to R&D Country Garage for several years. We actually make the hike from Springfield, because it's often worth the drive. Honest folks, generally competent and knowledgeable, always nice to deal with, and always provide good value. We've really had nothing but good experience with them.
