They always stand behind their repairs 100%. Last year the repaired my rack and pinion, using quality parts, at half the price that another good, but exorbitantly priced garage I've used, quoted. Plus they take the time to explain work done using language which is understandable to me. They have a website at www.uptownimports.com.

I took my Galant here the first time I ever took my car somewhere other than the dealership. Needless to say I was a bit apprehensive, but I took it to Uptown based on what I read here. A great experience! My car was out of power steering fluid, and they originally thought the power steering rack needed to be replaced. They planned to fix the existing one rather than put in a new one (the dealership would not do this, only put in a new one, costing more than $1300 incl. labor). On closer inspection, James and the guys were able to replace just a steel line that had rusted through (hence the fluid loss) with a $65 part instead of a $350+ refurbished power steering rack. They saved me close to $1000 compared to what the dealership would have done, and put a nice warranty behind it. Their oil changes come with a nice, comprehensive vehicle inspection as well. I rate them highly, and they are just a 3 minute walk from the intersection of Lyndale and Lake Street, meaning buses to the area are plentiful. Bottom line: straight-shooting, informative mechanics who just want to fix what's wrong, and who will do it economically.

I haven't been there for a couple of years (since i moved across town and bought a new VW), but they kept my VW Fox wagon alive for 3 years and did a couple of small fixes to a Datsun before that. They give you a straight answer on what's going on up front, and won't fix what isn't broken (unless you ask them to). My Fox always seemed to run better and smoother after I picked it up, no matter what they'd fixed. They only screwed up one, and it maybe wasn't them - a seal popped out the day after they'd replaced it. Fixed for free an hour after I brought it back.
