These guys are very honest. They fix little things for free, alwayscheck before doing work. If you've got a heap, or are approaching heapery, they'll advise you not to bother with some work. Or they'll recommend a cheaper alternative. I've never found that they're prices and rates are low. But I've gone there for 30 years because they are totally trustworthy. Convenient Saturday hours too.

This garage is wonderful - they are honest, professional, and easy to work with. They always fix the problem the first time, my repairs are always done the same day, and they usually throw in a few extras such as adjusting the clutch at no charge with the explanation "as long as we were in there..." I trust them implicitly - they always give me clear, logical information and they tell me straight out whether or not a repair is necessary. In fact, when I sent a friend and her very elderly car there they gave her a detailed estimate of $2000 worth of repairs that would "make the car run like new". Instead of drooling at the thought of all those zeros, they finished the estimate by telling her that in their opinion she shouldn't pay them to do it because the car wasn't worth it. These guys are saints.

I have found this to be my favorite shop in Minneapolis. Thay have always done a fantastic job on my car, albeit for a price. They aren't very cheap. However, if you're willing to perhaps pay a little more, they are very timly and have taken the time to explain exactly what's wrong and what they intend to do to fix the problem. They have NEVER done work to my vehicle without my permission and have been good at saying what makes economical sense for an older car.

They do well with both my 1988 car and new car. Their oil changes are a great deal, coming with a free car wash, an inspection, and free tire rotation on the new Goodyears. They are good about pointing out potential problems with the 1988 vehicle before it breaks, and show me the problems upon request. They can work major repairs into their schedule very quickly and are prompt in the repairs. In the mornings, older gentlemen work the front desk remind me of grandfathers. They are also on major bus lines that run to downtown and directly to the University.

Until reading others' remarks, I never had a notion that Parents was overpriced. The shop usually is less-expensive than the dealer, and because I live within a mile, it's far more convenient than dragging myself nine miles out a freeway to the dealership and having to set up a ride to get back to work and then back again to pick up the car. The dealer is open later, but Parents is so fast for something like an oil change -- while I'm waiting -- there's no point in going anywhere else. (And the oil change costs less than at quike-change competitors.) What sent me to Parents the first time was a recommendation by the owner of a nearby body shop, and I've never regretted taking his advice.

I'm a second-generation Parents customer. They DO cost a bit more than other shops (but not so much that I can't afford them on my nonprofit salary), but they are absolutely trustworthy. They've seen me through two VW beaters that they kept running for 10 years, and into the post-warranty life my of newish Hyundai. Couldn't give them a bigger thumbs up.
