With winter coming on I go to switch from "fresh air" to "max A/X" and the little lever on my 2007 Nissan Versa won't go. Turning up the fan fron 1 to 2 I hear it make that blades-impinging-on-something sound. So I take it, first thing, to my friendly Nissan dealer. They give me a song and dance about having to replace the entire blower module and 4-cable assembly for a minimum of $750. So I leave the local Holland MI Nissan dealer in disgust and stop in just down the road at ALBA Automotive Repair. They ask a $60 diagnostic fee (applicable to the work if accepted) verbally guaranteeing it won't come near the Nissan dealers outrageous estimate. I make an appointment and they get me in next day bright an early. Next day at 8AM ALBA Automotive Repair tells me it will be maybe two hours. Being on 2nd shift this week, I decide to kill the time at the Carpe Latte coffee joint (free WiFi) a short walk away. Three hours later I wonder what's up since ALBA didn't call. I walk back to find them just then backing my Versa out of the garage. The actual problem? Some little critter had harvested insulation from my engine hood thermal blanket and built a nest in as far back into the system as it could get. The ALBA guy hands me a double handful of blue fluff. Total cost is just $120 versus the Nissan dealer's $750. So, yeah, I'll be going back there again. Gonna try them out on a radiator flush and tune up right after the holidays.
