Honest as the day is long... Won't take my Subaru or Toyota to anyone else unless absolutely necessary. Did a muffler replacement for us for $250, that dealer wanted $750... (keep them out of the hands of the DEALERS!) Joel, Julie, Bill, and crew are knowledgeable, will tell you what they cannot do, and they are pleasant to deal with. Not sure if they have loaner cars or are ASE certified--they may be. Issue has not come up.

CLEAN! and SMART! You could eat off the floor! Well organized, too. Everything in its place. A mechanic who knows where his tools are doesn't add time and cost to the appointment. Also, most people don't realize that dirty tools attract rust and depreciate rapidly, a cost that is passed on to the customer at most shops. Joel is very knowledgeable. Impressive equal opportunity employer with a smart female mechanic, too. Although his price is almost the same as the Subaru dealer in Bangor, ME, that's an hour away -- an hour I save driving.

After moving to Belfast in '08 and taking my truck to several shops in the area I now go to BJ's first. The three mechanics are intelligent, friendly, and honest - no BS. They don't have the cheapest hourly rate around by any means, but you get exactly what you pay for. They seem particularly good at accurately diagnosing problems that others can't pinpoint, rather than fumbling around with ineffective fixes. They also offer free transport to/from the shop in the Belfast area if you ask.

They replaced fuel lines and a front end part.($800!) The fuel line immediately got cut by rubbing on the A/C belt. They repaired the fuel line and cut the A/C belt off! disabling the compressor! The front end part (drag link)made the car unsteerable and they had to adjust that also. They charged me $110 to fix their repairs! The A/C compressor failed due to the belt being cut. I didnt go back because I dont like being ripped off. Joel the owner likes ignorant old lady customers best 'cuz they "trust" him.
