My automobile choice is Volvo. I have a 2000 S-40 and three wagons, 85, 88 and 94. The wagons all have well over 240k miles. They are all in near perfect condition and do not burn oil. We are home improvement contractors and use the wagons to travel to our projects. Volvo Specialist Inc (301) 762-1553 has done nearly all of the repairs and servicing on our Volvos and we are very fussy about our cars.

Brian and Staff are very knowledgable and considerate of customers time and vehicles. Diagnose problems with Volvo diagnostics, getting the job done in responsible time. Found a transmission sensor and warped rotors in a flash and corrected both problems. Assisted in a car inspection before I baught my second used Volvo. '93 960 was totalled in an assident and the have a '94 850 wagon.

I took my car to Volvo Specialist (it was Brad, not anyone named Brian that I dealt with there) for a routine service. They apparently did a good job at a reasonable price for that, but shortly afterward my Check Engine light came on. I called Volvo Specialist, but they wanted to charge me $80 (an hour's labor) to tell me what the problem was. I took the car to European Auto instead, and it took them all of two minutes to plug in the computer and diagnose the problem (broken air pump). They didn't charge me at all for the diagnosis! So don't take your Check Engine light to them, although they might be OK for regular servicing. P.S. they don't have a real waiting room, so you can't comfortably sit and wait for your car. Not such a problem if you have another way to get to work, I guess. I think you could walk to the Metro from the shop. They don't have loaners or provide rides outside the immediate neighborhood.

I took my 94 Volvo in for a break job. They had it to me within an hour. While I was there I also had them replace the timing belt. Good work and the price was so-so. One thing that I wished they would have done was advise me on other work I should have had performed at the same time. I asked them what they suggested and they only said the standard 50k maintenance of belts, plugs, etc. What I wish they would have said was "While we are replacing the timing belt would you like us to replace the front engine seals?" I would have said "Of course!" Now my seals are leaking and the timing belt has to be removed to replace them. So now I have to take it again and spend $200+ to get $10 in seals replaced.

I tell all of my friends how wonderful this shop is! The crew at Volvo Specialists has been taking care of my 4 Volvo's and my Chevrolet pickup for years now. They are always, courteous, timely, fairly priced and best of all they fix my cars right the first time. Again, I tell EVERYONE to go see them, you will not find this kind of dedication in the DMV.
