The vehicle in question was one that we were buying from them: a 2006 Subaru Forester with about 150,000 miles on it. The price was reasonable but not a bargain, given the condition of the car. This was okay, since we were looking for a second car for occasional use and one with AWD to get us out of our long driveway on snow days. We had given them a list of things that needed repair. The promised the car on Saturday, a couple of weeks ago, then pushed it to the next Wednesday, finally saying that it was done yesterday (Monday). It looked a lot cleaner and they'd done the body work and repair to the driver-side window and mirror mechanisms that were noted before. From their shop, we drove it directly to our mechanic, someone we trust. This morning, I stopped by our shop on the way into work, the owner had on a long face. She began reciting a litany of problems, big problems; transmission, catalytic convertor, cabin computer and more. I stopped her when she got to around $10,000 worth. The car was a piece of junk. My wife and I both took the afternoon off to drive the 60 miles back to Rockville. Fortunately, they returned our money (which they would only accept in cash) without a qualm. I have no doubt that they knew what they had sold us. My anxiety lies in knowing that they will probably try to fob this lemon off on someone less able to deal with it than we were. Avoid these people at all costs!
