I happen to work near Scanlan Fleet Service so they are convenient to do business with. But even if I didn't I would still bring my car to them. They do consistently fine work and are very ethical in their dealings. If I need to make special arrangements they are very willing and cooperative. They will suggest maintainance that I need but I never feel as though they're just trying to inflate the work ticket. They are a long established family business and their staff are personable and friendly to deal with. And since their rates are so reasonable I can have the mundane as well as the critical jobs done under the same roof with the knowledge that I am getting good value for my money.

25 or more repairs because we (my wife and I) drive old/used cars and we have been customers at Scanlan for 15 years, which is why we are decidedly biased customers. For routine work, we bring the cars in and say "do whatever is needed". If the work is necessary, they do it, if not, it doesn't happen. They're great! BTW, so is "Car Talk".

Mike and Joe Scanlan are very friendly, competent, honest, and reliable. They also are convenient in that they are there early and stay late. Their pleasant sister handles the billing.

Honest, reliable, communicative, and fair. If work needs doing they do it. If on the cusp they tell you. If it can wait or is unnecessary they tell you that too. This is probably the kiss of death . . . but I've never had a bad experience with these guys. And I appreciate that.

I would very highly recommend these guys to anyone. I was in College Park for the summer doing an internship, I needed some brake work done a week before heading back to upstate NY, and the first place I went to (not here) tried to sell me every part they could think of. Then I tried Scanlans not only did they not try to rip me off, but they did an excellent job and were very cheap.

This is a family run business where they treat customers fairly- both men and women. Joe and Mike do a great job diagnosing problems and are really know their stuff. Sometimes the shop can be busy since they do great work for reasonable prices, but it is worth the wait to get an appointment.

My wife and I have been customer there for over 20 years. I wouldn't keep going back unless they were great! I could tell many stories about how good they are and often do, but I'll limit it here. The only issue I have with them is that they have so much work it sometimes takes several weeks to schedule an appointment, and if it's something urgent, we sadly have to go somewhere else. It was omne of these times when my wife's motor mount broke. There was a service station near her work that was recommended. They replaced the mount be the car still made a rattling noise. She took it back and they said it was normal. She knew they were lying to her so she took it to Mike and asked him if he could just look at it. He got under the car and asked for a screwdriver. After a couple of minutes he crawled out and said the other shop had run a line the wrong way so he fixed it. NO CHARGE! They know how to fix cars and they're honest, and can easily fix other shops mistakes. I try never to go anywhere else.

We've taken our cars to this family-run garage for about 30 years now, several makes-models (mostly Japanese makes for us), and I can't recall now how many times they've saved me money - sometimes lots of money. Like the time they replaced the electronic control module (which I'd blown out jump starting the car) in our Honda Civic Hybrid for about $1K less than the quote from the Honda dealer. I take my cars to them whenever I can because I TRUST THEM - I'm finding again and again with mechanics, plumbers, etc. that one doesn't always get a straight story - from the Scanlans, I never have ANY doubt that they are telling me the truth! You may find, if you go in with something that seems to be a problem, that they may tell you it's not obvious what's wrong - but they don't just start replacing things (unless you tell them to) - so sometimes I need to wait until the problem gets a little more obvious, and then take it back. But they are good!
