I have been to numerous mechanics. Being a woman, shops do try to take advantage. I began taking couses in basic mechanics so that I could tell when I was being taken advantage of. Ever since I found Ernie's Automotive, and the mechanic I have, Mr. Joseph Kleinman, I feel totally at ease when I leave my car to be worked on. If I desired to have Joseph explain exactly to me what the problem of my car is experiencing, Joseph will take all the time necessary to explain and SHOW me the problem, even if he has to teach me parts of the engine so that I understand. The work is always completed on time, as promised. The work is always professional, and Joseph goes out of his way to please his customers. Sometimes I will find that Joseph has, on his own behalf, fixed my ash tray light, or my radio volume knob, or the trunk light, or some other small item. Not only does he fix items he notices are not functioning (and probably disturbing to the driver - like the radio volume knob)and of course he does not charge for the extra little repairs, but he will not mention the extra repairs. I find out on my own, and then chuckle at myself. Joseph is really out to please his customers, and to do the best work.

Based on my responces above you probably think something's fishy ,but these guys are worth their weight in a variety of precious metals. They have worked on my cars for the last 10 yrs, first with a VW Jetta and now with my Taurus SHO. I've brought my SHO in for brake work at 11:00 AM and got a call at 3:00 it was finished oh yeah and we just did the front brakes because the rear were fine!

Everybody at Ernie's is more than competent - but Mike is usually the first point of contact. Without any hint whatsoever of condescension, he knows the problem before I'm even halfway through describing it. He's got a poker face that reveals absolutely nothing, but he doesn't miss a trick and he takes time to know the customers and their cars. My husband is crazy about this place because, "these guys KNOW CARS AND TRUCKS". It's a challenge to find the place the first time, all nestled away in some of the most uncharacteristically developed prime real estate - but it is worth the effort!

While I share most of the comments on Ernie's, I would like to add a little caution. I have been using Ernie's for about 8-9 years and have always been satisfied -- sometimes very satisfied and sometimes only partially satisfied. This less than full satisfaction is the reason why I am adding a comment. I have found Ernie's to be extremely honest and reasonable in their charges, BUT I have had multiple instances where I had to go back to them to redo something that they were supposed to have fixed in the first place. They are more than willing to resolve the problem, but it is a hassle. I'm lucky in that I can walk down the Capital Crescent to the shop, so it is not that big an imposition. The other gripe I have is related to checking out a used car prior to purchase. We make it a habit to have a used car checked out with a mechanic prior to completing a sale. My experience with taking the car to Ernie's has not been entirely successful. I get the impression that they didn't give the car as thorough a going over as I would like. It may be that they just aren't articulate in stating that the car was OK. With these small gripes, I would recommend them to anyone.
