On Joppa Road between Loch Raven Blvd. and Goucher Blvd. Hollenshade's has been in business for a long time with good reason. They do what you ask and no more. If something else needs to be done soon, they'll tell you when you come in to pick up your car. If it needs to be done now, they'll call you. If it's time to sell your car, they'll tell you that too. (And they're usually right!) If you've got a problem that should be handled by the dealer, they'll tell you that too. They have never done me wrong (15 years for me, more for my wife)and they are HONEST! The down side is that they are extremely busy most of the time. Mr. Hollenshade seems a little gruff at times, but he's a sweetheart. They probably do treat their male and female customers differently, but more based on what they think you know about cars than gender. (Most people don't know squat!) They are willing to explain.

This is a third generation family business. The second generation recently retired which is a benefit to new customers since he could be pretty gruff and opinionated, and could be rude if he felt like it. His sons are now the most senior people at the garage and the are both polite and pleasant, but they won't lie to you. I have been taking my cars to Hollenshades for about twelve years and the last time I moved, one of the considererations was how easily I could get to and from their place from mine. If you are a woman looking for a place you can trust and feel comfortable going in to, th

What more can I say. The first two comments sum it up. I have been going there since 1970 and can see no reason to go anywhere else. Yes, Lee (the gruff one) has retired. Tom and Tim now run things and the service is the same. How could it get any better?

It can be a bit scary as a woman to go to a new car shop. I always wonder if I am being screwed... but not here. I was recommended by good friends and have met Mrs. H and the kids at our pet shop...... lovely family! I was confident upon talking to the guys in the shop that they had my best interest in mind. They are honest & hard working. You really can trust them.

My daughter was going back to VPI and the water pump started to leak on Saturday. I asked if she could take some water to refill the radiator if necessary and he said if we can't get a pump on Saturday, where would she get one on Sunday. Bring the car in at 7:30 Monday and will get her out quickly. They did.

I found Hollenshade's through this site. I took my '98 Mazda to them with two problems that could have been golden opportunities for a less-than-honest shop to make money. 1) My car failed state emissions testing. They located the problem quickly (an oxygen sensor) and repaired it for only $250. Since there are apparently 4 oxygen sensors on the car, they could have told me they all had to be replaced and I wouldn't have know any better. 2) My brakes squeaked. Assuming that squeaky brakes means bad brakes, I was fully prepared to have them replaced. They checked them and told me the pads still had 75% left on them and there was no mechanical problem with the braking system that could be causing the squeaking. In fact, they were unable to get them to squeak. (Odd since they squeaked constantly for me.) When I picked up the car, the squeaking had stopped. I had expected to end up paying $500+ on the emissions system and $300-400 on brakes. Instead I walked away with a bill of less than $300 and the satisfaction of having found an honest repair shop where I'll be taking both my cars and that I'll be recommending to all my friends.

In 17 years I have never and will never use anyone other than Hollenshade's except if it is Dealer warranty work or if Tim or Tom recommend I go to the dealer. And the dry humor...it is just worth going to visit just to hear them talk about things for a great laugh. I've been sending them referrals for years and have only heard compliments. What a fantastic Service Shop!

My family has been using Hollenshades since my father found them in 1948. All 3 generations have done the business proud. They've moved twice since those early days; but we keep following them. My wife and I couldn't recommend any mechanics more highly for both price and dependability. Our daughter travels 25 miles to have her vehicle serviced by them as well. Over the years this has included Fords, Chevys, Mercs, and Hondas.

I'm a former customer who has moved away from Baltimore-- among the many things I miss, Hollenshade's is right up there on the list. Always reliable, took time to explain the repairs to me, would "fit me in" if i stopped by with a little problem. Honest, trustworthy, didn't do unnecessary work, even when I asked, "well, what about X? Shouldn't i have X done?" (They'd say: No, you don't need it.") I can't say enough good things about this place. HIGHLY recommended.
