Prior to my current car, I had a 1980 Datsun 210 that when my older brother owned it, was serviced at the Good News Garage. But since then it was cared for by a bunch of cretins and thugs (including myself). Finally, after being told I needed a $400 caliper replacement I took it to Hometown where Steve fixed the problem in less than an hour and charged me under $30. There's none better or more honest, though his dog does occassionally bite.

The Dick's Auto, owned by Dick Noel, that I am referring to is on King Street in Orange - not Shutesbury. As a single woman with little car mechanical knowledge, Dick has consistently explained things to me in terms I can understand. Many times he has suggested and found second hand parts that cost much less than factory new. Example: broken side-view mirror - over $100 to replace with new part. $12 to replace mirror only from junk-yard. He has kept my 1988 Toyota purring without needing any major repairs.

No, they don't provide loaners but in this part of MA there is not a public transportation option, so I still recommend Dick's highly. I am reviewer #18389, 1997 and after 9 years I am still with Dick. This means he's been caring for me and my vehicles since 1990 or so. I left for about 18 months because he IS expensive, but you know what? It's worth it. For instance tonight the 99 Camry's battery died at the mailbox. I had it towed in (god bless AAA gold) and Dick called me at 8:30 TONIGHT - he worked on my car after dinner - and I have a new battery. I can go in at 6:30 tomorrow morning, pick up my car from the lot and still get to work on time. It will be locked with the bill and key in it. He knows I'll pay so isn't worried. Where else can you get this level of service????? I love and trust Dick Noel. He may be a bit more expensive, but he's worth it!

I've been taking my vehicles to Dick's for over 15 years. He always fixes it right, doesn't sell me what I don't need, and charges a fair price. I do my own repairs whenever possible, for example brakes, wheel bearings, starter motors, that sort of thing - and when I decide to have him do the work, I'm usually well aware of what needs to be done and how much it should cost. He's never let me down. I disagree with other reviewers who say he's expensive - ALL car repairs are expensive. His prices are quite fair in my opinion. You can drop your car off anytime day or night, and if you can't make it there to pick up your car by closing time, no problem. He lives next door, and you can pick your car up after hours, just let him know when you'll be there and give a knock on the back door.
