My family has gone to Volsar for years (about 20). They are the best; they are a small family run shop. They are always honest and fair. The work is ALLWAYS done in a timely manor. I have had them teach me how to fix my own car. I've gone to them with simple repairs that I could do myself and had them tell me what to buy at the store and how to fix it myself. (Without charging me a dime for the diagnosis or the advice) If all mechanics were as honest as the ones at this shop, people would have a whole different outlook on the profession. I moved to a town 20 miles away and continued to bring my car to them. Last year I moved to a town that is roughly 40 miles away and I cannot find a good mechanic in town. I currently need work done on my car and I am actually going to bring it to this shop and rent a car for the day. All though it will cost me to rent a car I feel that the price is well worth what I'd save in being ripped off by another mechanic. The only problem that I have is they are not open in Saturdays' anymore !! They were, but about 5 years ago they decided that spending time with the family is more important and who can fault them for that!! p.s. For those of you who work in Boston, the bus stop is right outside the door !!!!

Joe and Gus are the real deal. Funny, straightforward, honest. One time, another garage wanted to charge me for a new alternator. Joe checked it out -- a fuse he replaced for free! They fully explain their repair work and save any replaced parts for customer inspection. They do not differentiate between men and women -- I get the same fully-detailed descriptions as the men. All four of my sisters go to Joe and Gus with their cars too. And we all drive different makes and models. If the thank-you and Holiday cards that line their office are any indication of their happy customers, I'd say they're all set. Bus stop to Sullivan Station (Orange lline) right out front.

Gus is a great mechanic. This is a small shop but they know the meaning of service. I first went to Volsar because I thought I needed a new clutch (my previous mechanic told me that it was at the end of its adjustment). Gus found that he could adjusted the clutch, and I got over 15,000 more miles on it (and saving a coupld of hundred bucks). He didn't charge for the adjustment, and I have been using Gus ever since. When I junked that car, I bought a pre-owned certified VW. Since the VW is under warranty, I have been forced to use the dealer shop for warranty repairs. I still use Gus for oil changes and non-warranty repairs. I refer my family and friends to him. They require an appointment but the work is always done the same day and with friendly service. Gus is always up front and honest with the work done and the cost.

I went to Volsar after the Meineke on the McGrath Highway tried to fleece me for getting some brake work done. Meineke had quoted me a price of almost $1500 for front and rear rotors and pads, and rear calipers. Give me a break! Their estimate sheet had a laundry list of crap that they hadn't even talked about fixing. So, my landlord recommended that I call up Gus since he had been going to Volsar for some 25 years. From the very first phone call trying to schedule an appointment, I knew that Volsar was the place. Gus was very friendly on the phone, remembered my landlord's name when I mentioned his referral, and set me up with an appointment 2 days later. When I arrived to drop off my car, he was very friendly and remembered my name instantly. There was a woman there who arrived before me to pick up her car, and he was not talking down to her at all -- he was quite specific about the things he had fixed and recommendations he had for her, explaining everything in detail but in understandable language. And of course, the best part - the repairs were performed expertly. I would honestly drive 30 miles for service like this, but luckily I don't have to because I only live 1/2 mile away! I recommend Volsar most highly.

A dealer diagnosed a problem I had as a MAP sensor switch, gave me a $310 quote and said they'd have to order the part. I called Volsar and spoke with Gus who asked a lot of questions over the phone and came up with another possible diagnosis and told me to come in. Gus and I took the car out for a test drive and were not able to reproduce the problem I had been having, but he felt something else going on that I hadn't noticed before that he said was definitely the MAP sensor. All the time he was asking questions and explaining things. We took it back to the shop, he put the computer on it and it read out MAP sensor. He popped the hood, and immediately called me over to look with him at a 3" hose that was split. He replaced it and said "Give me $20 and we'll call it good". The whole interaction, from walking into the front door to driving away, took about 45 minutes. I'll be back.

My dealer had already replaced 2 air sensors in my 2001 Subaru Forester when the check engine light came on again. They said not to worry, probably the gas cap again & go ahead & drive it. I don't know much about cars, but I did know that wasn't the right answer. After checking this site & finding someone with a simialr problem I went to Volsar. Gus found & replaced a bad knock sensor, one that my dealer had never mentioned. He said if I'd continued driving I could have run into a big problem. After coming to them for a number of years I admit that I've become very biased & no wonder. They always treat me fairly, the same as their male customers, always explain everything they do & their prices are reasonable for excellent work. And I've never come back with something not done right the first time. I plan to keep coming.

They replaced my alternator, same day, for about half the price of the dealer's quote. They called before doing the work, and called when complete. Better yet, they were actually friendly. While I was in the shop, several other people came in, and they were all treated well - so I've got to compliment their customer service. Tell Gus you heard about him through this site. He's been there 20+ years and doesn't advertise.

Just take your car here, you'll be glad you did. Gus and Chuck were very helpful and answered all of me and my wife's questions.
