Recently have relocated out of a gas station into a larger repair facility - although they still offer "full serve" services without the gas. Stop by and ask them to check your levels and air pressure at no charge. They like cars and they like people and always try to repair vehicles at a reasonable cost without a lot of "extras". Please watch out for the neighborhood kids - they are learning how to fill their bicycle tires with air.

I am in the process of buying a car and called to get a pre-purchase inspection. They are a man short this week and couldn't get me in. However, the person I talked to (John) took at least 10 minutes on the phone to talk to me about the car I'm looking at. He told me how long the brakes would probably last, what kind of engine the car has (based on the VIN), what the good and bad points of that engine are, etc. Given that I've never done business with Shields and that they weren't going to make any money off me this time, I was quite impressed. I'll definitely use them when I do need service.

Took my Ford Escape in there for some work on the rear differential, and asked them for an opinion on my brakes. Pep Boys told me they needed to replace the brakes and rotors to the tune of $500. They correctly diagnosed the problem as the axle and fixed it, rotated my tires for free, and spent a lot of time telling me what went wrong and why. These guys love to talk to customers, and it really helps. By the way, they told me I did not need any brakes - saved me a lot of money. John is a great guy, and tells you what he thinks. Simply put, these guys have all my future business.

I drive many miles out of my way to have my car fixed at Shields Service. John always calls before fixing anything in my car to get an OK and explains it to me in a way in which even I understand. He's gone over the car with me, identifing parts and ways things work. He's added new windshield wipers and washed my windows with out requesting extra pay. His men speak highly of him and always seem to be enjoying their work. I met his son the other day who justed started working there and he's just as competent as John!

I am a totally satisfied customer! I don't know the official answers to some of the categories in this form, but I do know that their honesty, competence, and prices have snagged me as a loyal customer who recommends them to all of my friends. When my truck was running rough, I told them to just go ahead and give it a tune-up. After checking it out, they said it only needed one spark plug replaced, not a tune-up, so they didn't do the tune-up (a.k.a., saved me time and money!). They listen to my descriptions of problems, do test drives, call me with their diagnosis to get my approval, fix ONLY what really needs fixing, and always get my truck back to me in the timeframe they said and for the amount they said. They are VERY customer-friendly! They are the kind of NON- dealership shop that I was looking for!!! I won't go any place else!

This shop is like having the Tappit Brothers in Louisville, KY without the Italian accent or having to put up with Boston traffic. John takes the time to explain everything about the problem, all possible solutions and his shop is spotless (I cmmented that his shop reminded me of many Battalion Maintenance shops in the service and he said, " don't say that too loud, I just chewed my guys out this morning for not keeping their work areas straight." His mechanics are all required to have their name on their shirt so you know who you are talking to and they all take obvious pride in their shop. This guy is an honest, competent shop owner/mechanic.

I was out of town and my wife took our 2003 Sienna minivan in because it was starting to run rough. John and his guys took it in, checked it out and even made arrangements with the Toyota dealer to fix it under warranty. A $1500 engine rebuild for free. John charged me a grand total of nada. His words were, "We just looked at it and figured out what was wrong. Toyota needed to back their product. I could take your money and fix it, but it is Christmas and you need the money more then I do." That is the whole truth. This guy is honest as the day is long. He treats others the way he wants to be treated. I will never take my cars to anyone else.

John, is the best mechanic I have ever dealt with. Totally honest! Just about every time we take the car in he talks us out of unneeded service. Our Saturn is 3 years old and we have never had the radiator flushed. Why getting the blower switch replaced we suggested that since we had it in the shop we should go ahead and flush the radiator. He checked it out, said it did not need flushing, pointing out that with the new type antifreeze they use, it should be good for 5 years. How many mechanics would have turn down extra work? The world would be a better place if there were more John Shields in it!
