I was on a trip one time from Louisville to Georgia when my car developed a mechanical problem. The engine was sluggish and seemed to be running on about 1/2 to 3/4 of it's normal power. This did not make getting through the mountains a pleasant experience. I took it to a mechanic in Georgia who told me that I needed my engine rebuilt. I was not looking forward to spending the thousands of dollars - that I didn't have - when I struggled to get the car back home the 300 miles to Louisville. I called Mike VanMeter at Carteck the next day and told him the story. Mike who was familiar with the car told me not to worry, that I did not have a blown engine. I dropped the car off with him that day and called later to find out what the diagnosis was and what it was going to cost me. Mike said how's fifteen bucks sound. He said he replaced a rotted vacuum hose that had come off and said that if the "mechanic" I took it to in Georgia had taken the time to pull off the breather and look, he would have seen it too. The car ran perfectly after that. Mike knows his stuff. He's honest and quick and a really nice guy.

Mike is one of the nicest mechanics I've ever met. He has a small shop and if your in a hurry you might have to go to a bigger garage. He is very honest and does very good work. I highly recommend his garage.

It's a little shop, but don't let the size fool you. Mike Van Meter is a solid mechanic. Laid back with a quick wit and easy going. I was referred to Carteck via a trusted neighbor who only takes his vehicle in when he can't fix it himself. That told me something from the get go. Mike's prices are beyond fair, and I've never had to take my vehicle back after a repair was made. If you want an honest mechanic who will fix your vehicle right the first time and won't overcharge you, Mike is the guy. It will be a rare day when and if I ever take my cars anywhere else.

R12. What does that mean? Mike, the owner of Carteck, told me that is the problem with my cold air. All I knew was that it had not worked for almost half a decade. My poor vehicle had been to several different mechanics in the past and each one told me the same thing, "There's just no point." Nobody thought my air was worth fixing so therefore they would not work on it. A mechanic would take one look and go, "Nope, it's not worth it." Well, that was the case until I met Mike. He was more than willing to look at my car for me, even though I told him it had already been deemed useless. Mike took one glance at it and said, "I CAN FIX THAT." He said it with such confidence that I marveled at his ability to diagnose my car's problems without lifting the hood. Mike, professional that he is, received my car at his shop one late Wednesday morning. He called to tell me it was ready by early afternoon. I was even more amazed. Not only did he completely replace my out-dated A/C system, he gave my car the royal treatment and topped off my fluids, put air in my tires, and fixed a cosmetic issue related to the hood. I am ever so grateful for his kindness, professionalism, and fair pricing. I have traveled all over the U.S. and the world and I have never met a better mechanic than Mike at Carteck. My father and pappy were both mechanics and I never thought I would find anyone like them. But Mike's dedication to his craft, passion for helping people, and overall INTEGRITY made all the difference. He made the process of fixing my beat up old car seem painless and effortless because he is so talented. Mike gave my ride a brand new look and added years to it's life! You can search Yellow Pages and Google all you want, but you will never find a better place to take your car than Carteck!
