VERY competent and great at problem-solving; tries to keep costs reasonable. Throughly honest and a good gabber, too! The shop is usually a mess, but your car stays clean! Many times they stay late to finish work on your car when they know you need it...sometimes my auto has appeared at my front door when it is finished. They once got me on the road for a Sunday morning trip when I pulled in at 4:30 Saturday evening with a squealing water pump.

Bob smoozes the ladies and Bill does all the work. Computer generated repair refernces surrounded by many feet of shop manuals. They always get the car started. In a town going yuppie this is old time reliable repair. If they take the job it gets done right. The shop sounds like a clone of your shop.

I love these guys! They helped me get 305000 miles out of my Nissan Sentra ('84). It was running like a champ when I got rid of it-- its appearance by this time was starting to attract the wrong kind of attention. They kept my '57 Ford pickup rolling, and just performed a flawless valve job on my '90 Caravan.

People like Bob McClean are why we moved to this area! He takes care of you and your car, he is 100% honest and hard- working and a real kick in the pants too. He let my 4- year old ride up in the car while checking for a radiator leak...find another shop that's not so impersonal and so afraid of lawsuit that they balk at the mere presence of children. Type-A personalities probably won't like hanging around and chatting, but we love it and don't go anywhere else (except Jerry's Tire Sales for tire and brake work, another class A shop).

Bob has passed on, and the old garage has made way for a new office building. Like Tom Eaker, another Edwardsville institution is gone, never to be duplicated.
