  • Hilo Service and Speed was formerly on Waianuenue Ave. in Hilo but has moved to the Shipman business park in Keaau. The location is not convenient, except for people living in Puna, but for people in Hilo and on the Hamakua coast it is worth driving a few extra miles to get service from Aka, the owner. Aka is knowledgeable and takes time to explain exactly what he is doing and why. He listens to his customers. He is very generous with advice and information, and typically charges a bit less than other mechanics. I trust his skills and his integrity. 40 years ago I worked in a Chevrolet dealership's shop, and consider Aka to be on a level with the best mechanics I have known. While I still do most of my own mechanical work, whenever something requires specialized equipment or involves modern systems beyond my (now primitive) training and experience, I turn to Aka for my repairs.
