I do all my service here now for my 1990 VW cabriolet. Horst Fischer has been honest and straightforward. He tells me when he thinks something should be done and when he thinks its not worth it. He's put in used parts when he felt that was sufficient after checking with me, and advised me not to go with used parts when he thought that would be stupid (I'm pretty stupid on cars). After he knew me well enough to know I wouldn't do something dishonest myself he arranged for me to be able to pick up my car after hours. Doesn't talk too much, gets it done. I've not had such a good VW guy since I lived in Germany.

When I first moved to Wilmington I asked a lady with a VW where she gets her VW serviced. She said Fisher's. I have never looked back. I have ended my 5-800 dollar computer moduaa replacements in exchange for some vacumn hose.

I have taken my cars to Fischer's Automotive for 25 years shortly after he left the local VW dealership as Service Manager. He is a Master Mechanic trained in Germany and has the knowledge and expertise that is unequalled in this business, in my opinion. When VW dealerships have difficult problems to diagnose, they seek Horst's opinion. He has personally trained another mechanics in his shop, one of which has been with him for almost 25 years now who came to work for him fresh out of Vo-tech school. Obviously, Horst is a good employer with such longevity in his workforce. You will not find a cleaner shop, meticulous and honest person on this planet than Horst Fischer. My only regret is that he is headed towards retirement someday and he will be hard to replace when he does. You take your German-made car to his shop just once and you'll never want to go to another mechanic again.

I lived in Delaware for 2 years while attending grad school (very limited budget!) and this shop was recommended to me by another grad student who owned a VW. The owner was trained in Germany as all the certificates in the office attest to. They give accurate quotes and do the work quickly. They call you to let you know when the car is ready or if something has changed in their diagnosis or pricing - or if they have found something else. They also let you know if a repair is absolutely necessary or can wait a little while (good for those on a limited budget who need to plan for repairs.) The horrific VW dealer on Rt. 40 in Ellicott City, MD had told me I needed $1200 worth of repairs when I took it in for a simple oil change. Horst Fischer said I only needed one of their recommendations done and the bill was $286. I have since moved to DC and I've seriously considered driving the 2 hours to have H.F. work on my car. But I guess I'll take some recommendations from this site instead. Also, they may work on Audi as well. Call to check.

My entire family has been taking our cars to him for over 20 years. Not just VW's either. He has always been honest and completed repairs quickly and efficiently - using used parts wherever applicable and only after getting approval. We have even purchased a used car from him. His shop and yard are cleaner than ANY I have ever seen.

Since Horst has retired, one of his longtime, faithful employees, Sam Patterson, has taken over the business with Mr. Fischer taking on more of a consulting role. Still providing A1 service. These are the only guys that are allowed to touch the innards of my baby, currently a 2006 TDI Jetta with 90,000+ trouble free miles. My previous baby, a 1999 Jetta TDI, attained 375,000 before I sold it, thanks to them.

My '04 TDI needed new glow plugs and glow plug harness so I purchased the parts and was intending to do the repair myself. However, spring turned to summer, summer to fall and pretty soon it was glow plug season again and the parts were still riding around with me in the car. I found this shop via internet search in the fall of '08, and they had no problem installing the parts, despite my buying them somewhere else. The work was performed as promised, and the car is back to normal. 2 thumbs up as the saying goes.
