On the recommendation of a friend/coworker, I went to have them invesigate a fuel smell in my car. My problem luckily turned out to be minor- but believe me, I was thrilled when they actually TOLD me it was! At another place, they replaced my alternator when all it was was loose battery connections! West Hill also gave me the exact information I wanted on estimates for some minor issues- as well as some I'd forgotten about (like replacing that nasty old battery and getting new windshield wipers). I'm almost looking forward to going back to get those things fixed!

We picked West Hill five years ago because it was within walking distance of our new home in Elmwood. We could walk back home or push it there if need be. I'm very skeptical of any mechanic (and any other trade/profession for that matter). I'll spend weeks getting up the energy to deal with a service person and then when I get there, I loose all common sense and let them do whatever they say for whatever it costs (I once let a Firestone guy sell me a 4 wheel alignment on a '79 Datsun 510 and realized, after his spell wore off, that there are no rear OR front adjustments for that car) . Being totally skeptical, some early fix-its on my Hyundai left me wondering if they REALLY new what they were doing. Over time, and after getting shafted by the completely incompetent and fraudulent "peers" in the area , I have become a Don at West Hill fan. He's old enough to know about all those rule of thumb fixes that go back to the beginings of the internal combustion engine, but he has the technology to solve modern problems. Y'know, his first response isn't always,"It's the computer". I trust him to tell me if it's just the fuel filter that's clogged and not that the fuel pump is shot. They're not necessarily the cheapest, but I think there is a value there. He treats the job like I, in my idealistic days, would imagine myself fixing it if I ever own my own garage. He likes to SOLVE problems, not just make a buck. They once adjusted the carb on the 'ol junker Hyundai while it was in for an oil change, (no charge -- it just seemed to be running rich). They're now servicing our 10 year old Honda and newer Sable Another thing I'd like to clear-up. Someone else submitted a glowing review of West Hill but they rated "access to Public transportation" as non-existant. Hey man, there's a Bus Stop shelter at the end of the driveway.

This is by far the most incompetent business I have ever had to unfortunately deal with. Whenever I called this facility in regards to my vehicle that was at their location I had to be placed on hold several times just to have simple questions answered. Some of the questions asked were already answered previously, but wanting reassurance that I had my infomation correct, I asked again. When I did get a response, it would be the next day and in one case it too 5 days for me to get a response. Each day my vehicle was at this location I was charged for storage, and it appears to me, they were doing this on purpose. Long story short one tow that should've only cost $88 ending running over $300, and all because I had to wait for ""Mike"" to answer questions his incompetent staff either did not want to answer, could not answer or just plain didn't answer because they wanted to prolong the stay of my vehicle to make more money. NEVER AGAIN and I do not recommend anyone deal with this place, even if it's an accident and they show, beg the police to have a different tow company.
