I first brought my '71 VW Squareback to Charles for a pre-purchase inspection, despite the fact that he really specializes in air-cooled Porsches. Not only did he go to the (previous) owner's house to pick up the car and drop him off at work before meeting me at the shop for the inspection but he spent several hours with me going over every detail of the car. He put it up on the lift to dig around underneath, drove around town a bit, did a compression check and once over on the engine vitals, and gave me a page+ long list of potential issues and imperfections. Along the way, he explained what it all meant to me as a buyer and a newbie on the air cooled VW scene. I ended up buying the car and Charles was the first person that came to mind when I needed to fix a mystery problem. Since I was trying to learn more about the car to work on it myself, he let me hang around while he worked and gave me info on what might be going wrong. I do most of my own wrenching now but have remained in contact with Charles and often stop by to bounce ideas and have him check over the car with me. Every time he is helpful and willing to take some time out of the day to talk and troubleshoot. If you have an air-cooled Porsche, I highly recommend Charles, I've seen virtually every variation on the air-cooled Porsche (356, 911, 912, 914, etc.) at his shop, on top of a handful of VW Bugs, Busses, and Ghias of varying vintage. Based on his ongoing help with my VW, I'm sure he's putting in the care on every car that comes in. I'm partial to him because he's been so helpful to me but I know he knows his stuff and have seen him be just as helpful to other customers.
