While fixing my car for the problems I had noted, he also took it upon himself to adjust the clutch and other minor repairs at no charge. What particularly impressed me was his showing me all the old parts and explaining the defect in each of them. When he encountered a problem with some bolts that were frozen on and took much longer to remove, he didn't increase the number of labor hours originally estimated for the repair. He also recommended other parts be replaced, such as the water pump, at the same time as the general repair in order to save money compared to doing the same job separately at a later date.

I've dealt with these mechanics for a long time now. They have serviced both my late-model Mazda, my husband's Dodge minivan (yes, the will work on American vehicles), and my sons' 12-year-old Geo Prizm. In all cases they have provided extremely professional service, checking for developing problems (which they often simply put on a "watch list" -- sort of like my dentist does for my problematic teeth) as well as dealing with the complaint that brought me to their door. They will honestly suggest which services you should seek elsewhere (e.g., body work, wheel alignment, tire purchases) and which services they do best. The shop looks old and worn... no clean waiting room with free coffee. But they're good where it matters (under the hood). Besides, there are plenty of coffee shops in downtown Mt. View, just half a block away (and a good used book store three blocks away).

In late 2010 or early 2011, ownership changed hands. I had been going to the former owners for 30 years. The new owners are a different animal. Don't expect prices and customer relations to be same as before (I found their prices and attitude 'outrageous'!). Customer Beware! April, 2012
