This is a seven man shop that does contract work for local businesses as well as repairing private vehicles. They do all types of repairs, but contract out major specialty work like transmissions and electrical. I rate them as excellent. I know several savvy people who take their personal cars to North Bay for work. They are all satisfied customers. The manager - Scott Stevens - is a character, and a pleasure to deal with. Scott is a master mechanic and weekend race driver. He lives his work and builds his own race cars. Scott authorizes all repairs, and test drives all vehicles before they are returned to customers - good quality control. Scott has been working on my project '87 Caprice off-and-on for more than 4 years, customizing it bit by bit. His custom work, and the shop's overall performance, warrant their solid reputation in the community.

I am a young woman who is skeptical about mechanics--mostly because I know very little about cars and because my sisters have been taken advantage of. Took my car in for new brakes. Reasonable priced, friendly, explained things clearly, finished the job in less than two hours, and offered me a ride when they saw I didn't have anyone following me! This is what Arcata is all about... I am a satisfied customer!

In 1982 I showed up from Alaska with a 1966 chevelle needing a wheel alignment. They were great. Same guy named Joe, who resembled a bear said he did a good job, and now go roast those tires you student, you. I did, and he did agood job. So, I asked for a job and they gave me one. I never got much money, but I got my share of horsepower, and some fun and friends to boot!! Uncle Joe and Scott Knew their stuff and were good to the Alaskan, thanks, I learned a lot. I still won't adjust brakes on motor homes, but, the rest I can do. Karl
