The shop is a short distance from the metro (subway) and I always learn something on the ride over with Ron Schell, the service manager. My most instructive ride was the one in which I learned to recognize the sound of bearing knock (in a car I had brought in for pre-purchase inspection). Saved me a bundle! Joe (Conlon) is a prince of a mechanic, he has serviced my 1978 olds cutlass since it was new, and it showns no signs of mechanical distress (I _did_ do a preventative timing belt replacement). The shop is a bit out of the way from the main road, but judging by the makes I see in the lot, (including national guard trucks as well as mercedes) Joe helps keep a lot of fine vehicles running.

Joe has worked on cars for my family for at least 20 years now. He is always honest and fair with fast turnarounds. I never hesitate to recommend the shop to a co-worker and I've never had a complaint from a reference. All in all one of the best mechanics in Rockville!

A real blessing finding this shop. My 1999 GMC 15 passenger van had a blown engine, Joe Conlon found a replacement engine at a terrific price. He stood behind his work when the replacement engine failed within eight weeks (it was the engine that failed, not his workmanship), even paying for my tow from 200 miles away. The current engine is superb. Then a year later my transmission failed, and again he found a replacement transmission at a reasonable price. He replaced my wife's 2000 Honda Odyssey catalytic converter with a very reasonably priced unit, when all the other shop quotes were much higher. He always explains the work needed in detail, its great to deal with the shop owner or his very capable manager all the time, he even made himself available by cell when I had my emergency between replacement engine #1 and #2. The work is always done right the first time, I would trust him with any vehicle or problem. The kind of shop you always hope to find.

I had 2 good experiences in the last 2 weeks with Conlon's. A 2002 Honda Odyssey needed lots of maintenance, and they didn't charge anything to fix something that had an easy fix that I didn't know about. On a 2003 Miata needing lots of maintenance, they fixed an aggravating tick-tick sound that 8 years of trips mostly to 2 Mazda dealers never fixed. Again no extra charge. Less than a mile walk to White Flint metro, they close at 6. The timing belt/water pump replacement done last year has held up so far.

The shop is willing to tell me how critical a repair is and if I can wait or not. If I stop by un-scheduled with a problem, they will stop what they are doing and come out and look at my car to tell me what is going on. They talk to me, not at me, and explain everything very clearly. I have NEVER felt they did anything that didn't need to be done, which I can't say about other places I have used in the past.
