My wife and I are in our first year of marriage and there are still some kinks in the system that need to be ironed out. For example, when she asks me to take care of the brakes on our Nissan Frontier Pick-Up, which is our primary vehicle and our only transportation with Air Conditioning, I should really take care of it post haste. Well, when I didn't, she called me at work and said that she would take the truck in and have it done. She was headed to one of the many nationwide chain shops and I got a sickly feeling in my gut. My experience has always been that a smaller shop = better service. So, I looked here at the Mechanic X-files for a small shop in our area and found this one. Long story shorter; Tom is a great mechanic, very personable, and doesn't charge as if he is paying off his boat. In fact, after we had the truck brake pads serviced my wife priced the other guys just to make sure, and true enough a national chain price was twice what we had paid at Painters Mill BP/Amoco. Thanks again Tom!

I met Tom and Matt when I was working right around the corner from the station. They were convenient to that job but I have remained a customer of theirs even though it is quite a bit of traveling to get to the station now. They are honest which is a rare find in this day and age. The work is always done properly. When I find some one who has been ripped off by another mechanic I will suggest to them to take it to the station and have Matt look at it. If that man cannot figure it out there is no hope for the vehicle. If you are looking for a garage that will go the extra mile to diagnose a mechanical problem correctly the first time and fix the problem correctly the first time this is where you need to take your car!!! They were very accommodating when I had to change the day. Fixed the problem with the brakes and talked me out of a tuneup as the Check engine light wasn't. Charged a fair price for their work.

I originally went here because I was trying to find an honest mechanic when Firestone pulled one over on me. Tom, the head auto mechanic and business owner, at Painters Mill AMOCO was very helpful, and in the last review I gave him excellent ratings. A year later, once again I had repercussions from using the dishonest Firestone. The aftermarket part that Firestone (Liberty Rd) put in failed (I had asked and ordered an original part from Firestone and spent a lot of time arguing when I found out they put in an aftermarket catalytic converter and tried to charge me for an original part). Tom said that Firestone did not fit the converter well and, as an aftermarket part, there were no guarantees. He did his best to fix it and went out of his way to make sure what was wrong. Tom did not charge a thing for any of the labor or troubleshooting time as he could not guarantee a fix without getting an original part to fix the fit problem (my converter he said was working fine). This is highly unusual and gratifying in an auto-mechanic. Another year later and Tom still gives great advice, admits when he doesn't know something and explains things in great detail often showing me the part he had to replace. He does not overcharge and is very honest! My Toyota runs beautifully and as it is getting old I am giving it to my sister. I now have bought an Acura and Tom continues to give great service. I strongly recommend Painters Mill AMOCO.
