I heard through the grapevine that Jim, the owner, was pretty good with German and Swedish vehicles. But, trust me, I'm wary of most mechanics, and have always tried (and succeeded) to do both major and minor car stuff myself-- engine/tranny rebuilds, suspension, brakes... the whole deal. So it was with a lot of trepidation that when my check engine light activated, and I couldn't find anything obviously wrong, I called Autobahn. Mind you, the code that my Passat was throwing pointed to potentially EXPENSIVE repairs, at least if the experience of lots of posters on VW forums are to be believed. Anyhow, I was preparing myself for the worst. So I called Jim, described the symptoms/code, and how it might be an emissions pump, valve, etc, and he allowed that it might be something as simple as a fuse, and that he would diagnose it, check if the pump and egr valve were working, and let me know. Also told him my turbo was probably leaking oil ($$$!!), and to check it. Long story short, I took it in. Jim goofed on me for my political bumper sticker, told me I ought to clean my engine with some Fantastic and water, and said he'd call me later. That afternoon, got the call... just a vacuum line that needed to be replaced. The pump and valve were fine, and the turbo wasn't leaking- a valve cover gasket instead. This guy is knowledgeable, honest, VERY reasonably priced, and a character to boot. I HIGHLY recommend Autobahn. Can't say enough GOOD about the experience. Would definitely return. PS- the shop is actually just south of Hereford.
