I like taking my cars to George and his shop because of the excellent treatment I receive there and the competence he and his team display. Service managers DJ and Mike are excellent. Prices are not cheap but I believe they are in line with the area; plus, you can purchase discount cards to lower the price of various services. This is a great place if you really love cars. George is a racer and I believe this translates into excellent care and attention to customer's vehicles. Plus, he, DJ and Mike have all been very helpful this (very)amateur mechanic; they never talk down to me and take the time to explain what has to be done and why. This is important as I own a vintage Dodge Challenger that I need help with at times! Also, my Dodge Daytona went over 140K and I got a good price for it when I sold it; I had taken it to Winkler's for years. One other thing: Winkler's did my Daytona's mandatory inspection when I was getting it ready for sale. They found a tail panel light that had corroded and needed to be replaced, but was very difficult to get to. As soon as they realized that it would cost a great deal in labor for them to get to it, they called me to tell me I would probably want to take care of it myself (which I did). I just moved out of the area and I will miss this shop if I don't find it practical to go back.

These guys are great. They have always dealt honestly with me, even if it means less money for them. I have never had a problem with their repair work. I would recommend them to anyone, even if you have to go out of your way to get to them.

They did a profesional job and were very helpful, however, it took forever to get the job done. I had them work on my van 2x and both times it was 2 days before I saw it again (and the 2nd time was an oil change).

I don't know any of the mechanics personally, but the counter staff is always competent, friendly and forthcoming with advice ("That's a good idea." "That wouldn't be very smart." etc.) Several of them are also into hot rods/classic cars and the owner is a Harley owner who actually rides. True "motorheads" who aren't into it just as a job.

I have been using this shop for about 20 years (at 3 different locations!) and they have always been competent, honest and reasonably priced. They have done good work on a wide variety of vehicles, persistent in diagnosing difficult and intermittent problems and flexible in accommodating requests. Their subcontract arrangement with Geyer's Towing has been very helpful: Geyer's is available 24/7 and their charge is added to Winkler's bill. DJ has been an excellent service advisor, as was Mike; Joe (Mike's replacement) seems pretty good so far.

My Jeep Liberty was stalling when I would come to a stop, but it continued to start right up when the key was turned. The Dealer wanted me to replace my torque converter ($2000+). I found a second opinion at Winkler Auto (which I found using this forum at Cartalk.com), and those guys did a $100 diagnostic to find that my transmission fluid was very dirty and clogging the flow. Ultimately, I just needed a power-flush and a special filter changed. ($500 total and my Jeep is now great again!) They spent a lot of patient time explaining it to me before and after the diagnostic and convinced me that they knew what they were doing, and that they were doing all the right troubleshooting. I wish i still lived in Gaithersburg because these guys are the real thing. You can't go wrong with Winkler!

Honest, good work, good prices. I would highly recommend them for any vehicle service work you need!

Everyone I talk to about George and the gang agrees that they are honest and forthright and do quality work. When things go wrong, they will work with you to resolve the problem. The quality work and the warranty means using new, brand-name parts whenever possible, which makes them not cheap. Similar prices to the dealership, but I have far more trust in them than any dealer in the area. They have a Shuttle service and are next to bus stops and the MARC station otherwise.
