Chris didn't actually fix my car he just assessed how much it would cost me to get it fixed. It turned out that I decided to just get rid of it but he was very thorough in his inspection of the vehicle, honest in his advice i.e. "Oh ya Lady, it's gonna cost you a bit but it's definately worth fixing", took a lot of time to explain what was wrong and my options and then only wanted $10. I highly recommend him.

Chris is the best mechanic I have ever dealt with. He is honest, intelligent, figures stuff out when its tough, is a real human being, and cares about people. He does anything foreign, hates american stuff, but will occasionally tolerate a straightforward domestic repair, and has taken on some big stuff for me. Worked on Saab, Mercedes, VW, Mazda, and BMW for us over the past 5 y

My husband and I always pick up and drop off cars together (in order to leave one car for a day or so). It is so very obvious to me that Chris is just as interested in what I think and know about the car as what my husband does. He clearly loves telling us what he did or did not do to the car, and always tries to save us money. He is a self-declared minimalist and will give you the option of fixing something cheaply or permanently. Very straightforward, but make sure that you have about twenty minutes of extra time when you go pick up your car, because he will want to tell you all about it!

I concur with the other respondents, echoing the comments that Chris Hasbrouck, sole mechanic and owner of CJ's, is honest and very reasonable. He is a great resource for jobs you start, but can't complete due to lack of tools, etc. I usually tip him well, because he seems to underprice the value that we find in his work. Volunteers his time on the Shutesbury Fire Dept., too, and helps maintain their vehicles, saving the town some $$. 01/22/04

This mechanic will routinely point out alternative options that will cost you less when it would be very easy to lie and cost you more money. Honesty and fair prices are so hard to find in mechanics, but this one is both. I've moved 45 minutes away from this guy and I *still* always bring my cars to him. My business partner moved 90 minutes away and *he* still brings his cars to this mechanic.

Another garage gave up on diagnosing an issue with my Jetta. Thus, we found out about C J's. He only works on certain foreign cars. Chris was very thorough with my car. He test drove it, made suggestions, and the repairs were very reasonable cost. He is very personable, does respect what you have to say also, and the repairs are done in a timely manner. I just wish we had found him sooner...he would have fixed the problems right the first time!
