there always seems to be more problems like this time I need a timing belt .... what would the car do if I really need one ???? I have a '90 Mazda Protege 4 wheel drive I've had is since '90 and I love it ....

David used to work at the Buggy House in Melrose which suddenly went belly up and I was left without a mechanic. Years later, I saw him crossing the street in front of Foreign Auto. I yelled, "That's my mechanic!" I called and asked and sure enough, he was working there. My VW Golf has 240,000 miles on it so needless to say, they know me well. My accelerator got stuck and I had to have it towed in. The tow truck driver had played around with it but there are two joints and it was the second that got stuck. David freed it up for me and lubed it for free. Then he had me come out to the car to show me what the problem was in case it happened again. And while he had the hood up, he said, "I'm putting this rag under here so if you have to play with it, you won't get your hands dirty." Now, THAT'S a great mechanic.

The 1992 Toyota Camry I purchased from the shop in 2001 had an overheating problem that seemed to defy all logic. It would run for weeks then suddenly lose all coolant and strand me at the side of the road. In five seperate trips to the shop they escalated from replacing the thermostat, to the radiator, hoses, water pump, engine rebuild and finally a complete engine replacement. I paid for some towing and car rentals and the first repairs but THEY REPLACED THE ENGINE AT THEIR EXPENSE! The car has now been running three months without a problem, including a 2000 mile trip to Tennessee.

FOREIGN AUTO UNION IS THE BEST, PERIOD! I have been a customer of Foreign Auto Union since 1992. I am a very, very particular consumer (I was a purchasing agent for years). I ask a million questions and don't stop until I am completely satisfied with the answers (and that I understand them). I LOVE FOREIGN AUTO UNION! I will not allow anyone else to service our cars...ever. I am a g.m. of a small company, and our company owned cars are serviced by Foreign Auto Union EXCLUSIVELY. I purchased two 1996 Camry sedans in 10/96. The owner of the company still drives one of them...with 255k on it. I purchased the other Camry from the company 2 years ago for my mother, and that car now has 268k miles on it. Both run like new cars. Neither car has ever been serviced by anyone but FOREIGN AUTO UNION. Neither car has ever needed a major repair...just normal maintainence and wear and tear items. If my mother's Camry is disabled, goes from Hingham to Reading on a flat bed tow truck. Yesterday I dropped my car off in the morning for a rear brake job. The car has 65k miles on it, and has never had the rear brakes done. I figured with that many miles, the squeaking meant it was time. I picked the car up at the end of the day...and the bill was $24.97 for "rear brake cleaning and adjusment." Anyone else would have done my brakes even if they didn't need it. This complete honesty and integrity and RELATIONSHIP is par for the course with Bob and Julie. I have many more stories just like this (like "I am sure I need rotors" with the response "no, Joe, you really don't yet. We will tell you when its time.."). There are a million things to worry about in life. With Foreign Auto Union, I no longer worry about cars. Joe C. Reading, MA PS They keep a complete history of work done on your car... They tell you what needs to be done, and when. If you ask for work you don't need, they tell you the last time the work was done.

This is really an addendum to a previous review. It has been four years since they replaced my engine (AT THEIR EXPENSE)and my '92 Camry is nearing 200,000 miles. It has had its fair share of repairs but I still have no complaints. My costs have been just a fraction of the cost of a new car and I give all the credit to Foreign Auto Union.

Foreign Auto has been our main shop for many years. The first thing I can say is they are honest. The price is usually very good. They saved me a lot of money when a tire shop and dealer were recommending a lot of work be done. I tend not to do enough preventive maintenance so don't expect them to nag you about this but you need to schedule tune ups. For this reason I have had some big bills as the repairs mount up.

Now that I have found Foreign Auto I will never go anywhere else. Not only are they pleasant to deal with but they are efficient and honest. I first found them after having been told by a mechanic at 65K mile service that I needed $3,000 of work done. It just didn't sound right so I did some research on line and brought it in to Foreign Auto. I ended up paying a little over three hundred. They went through the list of what my other mechanic had recommended and explained that none of that stuff needed to be done yet. Another time I brought my car in for some lights on in the dash. They checked the problem and it turned out to be nothing but even though they clearly did some work they did not charge me for labor. I have been to Foreign Auto several times now and feel confident to recommend them. I have consistently owed less than expected every time I have brought my car in. Also, I have been very pleased with their communication and customer service.
