Phillip Kwan, the mechanic at Magazine Beach Shell, is competent, businesslike, and to the point. Actual costs, which are quite reasonable, never seem to stray far from his estimates. He'll take the time to explain the different repair options, and will let you know when he might have to spend some more time diagnosing a problem - he'll let you call the shots where appropriate. He has somewhat of an accent while speaking, so make sure to listen carefully!

Philip did a great job helping me extend the life of my dacaying Plymoth Voyager. I have referred friends and they were happy with his service, too.

Phillip Kwan is the best mechanic of all time -- a rare breed who is more interested in your loyalty than a few dollars here or there. I have had dozens of interactions with him and the rest of Magazine Beach Shell and they are always pleasant, honest, and effective. I have two representative examples of my experiences: 1. Phillip recommended I not fix my AC 5 years ago when it died. This was the first time any mechanic had ever suggested I NOT give them money to do something. He quickly (and accurately) explained that the cost of parts alone would exceed the car's value, and I've been a loyal customer ever since. 2. Phillip checked out a 3 year old certified used car I was about to buy for below the blue book value. After a quick drive around the block, he identified a minor engine noise (that was actually a major noise, when you lifted the hood) and immediately suggested I call off the deal, without actually requiring an inspection (which I would have paid him for). I will never look at a car without turning the engine on and lifting the hood. I can only hope that the hundreds (thousands?) of dollars Phil has saved me over the years will be far exceeded by my long-term business and the number of referrals I can make. If only I felt the same about my doctor...
