Patrick at West Cork has performed many repairs on my 1984 VW Quantum. He is a pleasure to work with, always explains everything completely, and charges fairly. He once called his friend who is in charge of a VW dealer's shop to get a second opinion on my repair. He has had tons of experience fixing vw's in Europe. He was even on car talk once. A caller had you call her mechanic who was Patrick at West Cork.

I hate to disagree, and I hesitate to comment because I like these guys, but I have had a couple of experiences to the contrary. I agree that Patrick and Sean are wonderful people but I do not think they are great diagnosticians. on two different autos I left with the same issue I came in with. On one occasion I asked them to check rear brakes and was told "no it's the fronts". After having the front brakes done for a few hundred dollars, I heard the sound 200 yards out of their garage and later I found the problem myself (broken rear caliper pin). Another time I had very similar scenario where the actual problem turned out to be a broken strut. We all sometimes goof and I am sure that if I had brought the vehicles back they would have made things right but for me the second occasion was enough. A friend of mine had similar experience as well. So to summarize, all the work has been explained and done well, at a good price, only sometimes it the wrong work!

Patrick is not just the only good mechanic I have ever had, he is also one of the best people with whom I have ever had the pleasure of doing business. He is a genuinely good person, incredibly honest and charging reasonable. He is a competent mechanic who doesn't hesitate to explain a problem, or to let you know when he can't determine the source of a problem and how he will go about getting the answer.

Patrick is a very good guy. He's honest, straightforward, a good neighbor and good citizen of JP. He works hard, he does good work, and his prices are reasonable. He has become so popular that you have to book ahead in order to see him, and if your car breaks down, it may take a little while for him to get to it because he doesn't want to bump any of his other customers. But when he makes a commitment, he keeps it. I heartily recommend him. Sean, his co-worker, is great too.

Patrick and Sean work really hard and are extremely honest. They fix stuff that's too far gone if you want them to, but they won't push you to do anything if you don't have the money. They will help you keep your jalopy running, or change your oil in a flash. They are very friendly. They work with whatever you budget limitations are. I moved away, and I miss having them nearby!

My partner and I have been going to Patrick for over 7 years. We moved out of JP 3 years ago and live North of the city, but we bring the cars back for service. He's very reasonable on the price, won't do anything outrageous with the billing. On tricky issues he thinks about and analyzes the problem and comes up with a reasonable approach to the repair of the vehicle (looking at the cost benefit analysis to the repair especially for old(er) vehicles). I believe he's . . . dare I say it . . . honest. He is busy so if you have repairs that can be planned for (tune- ups, brake work ,muffler, etc.) scheduling is usually not a problem. I think for (regular) customers he tries to bend over backwards to accommodate requests and schedules. For new or newer customers, I think he is more flexible and accommodating than you could hope for. His helper Sean is also a pleasure to work with.

Patrick is extremely honest and his price estimates for repair work are very accurate. He is very pleasant and completes the work very quickly.

We love Patrick! My whole family takes their cars to him. I first found Patrick through a friend, and in the past 5 or so years, he done great work for me on several different cars. He is kind, considerate, and extremely honest. If we are considering buying a used vehicle, we ALWAYS take it to Patrick first, and he happily gives it a thorough check. All of the cars we've taken to him are still running beautifully. A good, honest mechanic is hard to find -- I would recommend Patrick to anyone! We feel very lucky to have him.
