I continued to use the place for ordinary maintenance even after I moved to Northampton, because they were so honest and reliable. Roy Tracy was the chief mechanic when I went there; he went on when middle age began to affect his hands to teach at ehlocal Voc. high school, where staff have told je he is exactly the kind of teacher and role model those kids need. He would always try the cheap fix first. When you dropped the car off, you would agree on a pre-set cost ceiling, and he would call you before proceeding if the estimate went over that amount. When you picked up your car, you sat in his office, just like at the doctor's, and he would tell you what was wrong, what was done, and most importantly, what he' seen under there that was likely to impact you in the future. I had never had so satisfying a relationship with a garage before, and I suspect I never will again!
