I just had my car towed there because of an electrical fire under the hood. Burned up the battery and starter. They had it fixed in two days, and were honest enought to say they had no idea how it happened. I love these guys!

* The Gates Chevron people have always taken care to point out repairs that are still/might be covered by warrantee - and help me with completing any forms. * Their station is clean and orderly. * They participate in area decorating efforts (Christmas, Spring) *

I;ve been going to this mechanic for over 20 years. All I can say is that the owner, David Gates, is great. He is honest and does good work. Can anyone ask for more?

David helped me out in a couple of situations. In the rainstorm after the Florida State/Louisville football game in 2002, my car just died. I had it towed to Gates Chevron and David took good care of it (he was actually there at 11:00 PM, a little too hard of a worker, but great to see). It acted like an alternator problem, but was passing electrical tests. I wanted him to go ahead and change it, but he refused to do so until he completely diagnosed the problem. So I would say he is pretty honest!

I've taken three different cars to David. The first was a car that had already been to another shop. I was told by the previous shop that the noise I heard was the power steering pump and that a special addative would fix it. I took the car to Gates 3 months later still making the same noise. David said it was something else, fixed the problem and passed on additional information that he noticed while he was fixing the problem I complained about. He is very proactive and offers great advice. I took another car to him with the same great results. Finally I took my daughter's car to him and requested some specific work. David advised me that the work I was interested in was not necessary at the time. All I needed was an oil change everything else looked good. He is fair, honest, trustworthy and knowledgeable. I wish I had known about him 20 years ago.

We've used Gates for several years and have always been very satisfied.

I started taking my car to Gates Auto Service (they no longer sell gas) 10 years ago when I moved in up the street. I love these guys. Lane is my regular mechanic, but I would feel comfortable leaving my car in the hands of anyone there. I always feel like I'm being treated as family, and not the annoying kind. I recommend Lane whole heartedly to anyone seeking an honest and reliable mechanic. Apologies to Lane if I have misspelled his name.
