When our Volvo dealership put up a brand new show room and repair shop, we were not so surprised to learn that repair quotes for our 1989 Volvo 240 DL shot up as well. I finally convinced my husband that we should shop around and find a small business that would meet our repair needs. My husband had some reservations about a smaller business having access to OEM parts and two mechanics vs. dealership resources but we agreed to try Swedish Cars in Schaumburg. The shop was located in a modest building somewhat off the beaten path. Although we had to resort to Rand McNally, they are located near a major intersection,Wise/Roselle Road. We felt safe to leave our car overnight which was more convenient for us since our dealership locks a gate on the car lot eliminating the option to drop off the night before. Our expectations were more than met when SCS evaluated the repairs in 1/2 day, and delivered on their promise to complete the rather extensive repairs in two days. SCS appeared to have no problem getting the parts. I couldn't answer some of the questions above as the repairs seem satisfactory and I have no idea how to evaluate competency of a mechanic only to the extent that my a/c is now blowing cold air instead of hot.

We've used Swedish Car Specialists since we bought our 2000 V40 new. Since then, they have serviced our 2000 and our 1989 240 with great care. I feel as if they know and care for my cars as if they were their own. I HATED going to the dealership and being handled by 4 or 5 people and never having the opportunity to talk to the person who worked on the car. I LOVED calling SCS and having Randy answer the phone, book the appointment, seperate the critical jobs from the cosmetic jobs and treat me as a good customer. For this, I forgive you for not being open on Saturdays but offering a convenient drop off service. Randy and Lester are always in good mood and I feel as if I am visiting my uncle's home instead of a car repair shop. We recently transitioned to the east coast and my husband drove our V40 back to SCS to have a costly repair done since we felt more comfortable with the team at SCS than the local Volvo dealership. Hoping we find a local guy to replace SCS soon but we will never forget the 6 years of excellent service that Randy and Lester offered.

Lester and Randy did some major work on my '66 Amazon wagon. The work was done expertly. Lester knows more about old Volvo's than anyone I've encountered in many years of owning and driving them. These guys know what they're doing, and they tell it like it is. I would recommend them to any fellow Volvo owner in the Chicago area.
