This is a privately-owned shop staffed by friendly, honest, helpful people. Not once did they ever try to fix something that didn't need it, and if I told them I needed done cheap, they got it done cheap. (I phoned my uncle the Minnesota mechanic about a couple of their estimates, and he said they sounded very fair.) They never took advantage of my being a girl. When they got stumped -- and it only happened once -- they didn't insist on trying six times to fix it and charging every time; instead Gus wrote a detailed note of his findings for me to take to the dealership. The mechanics there, working in the Chicago suburbs as they do, have a lot of experience with a lot of different domestic and foreign cars. I can't say what certifications they have, but they're very good at making cars run and not requiring you to sign over mortgages/firstborn children/kidneys to do it. They also have the best deal on oil changes in that whole suburban area. It's not just that they're competent and trustworthy. After about two visits, they knew me by name and by car, even over the phone. The time they got stumped, they wanted to know what happened. Several of my coworkers took their cars there, and they all had good experiences. I took my car in for a last oil change before I moved and hung out in the garage chatting with them while they worked on it. I wished I could have taken them with me. But since I can't, the people in Chicagoland should know there's a good place to take their cars.
