I bought a 13 year old VW camper from Rich on an as-is basis. It developed a coolant leak after 2 months. He resealed the heads, replaced the water pump and thermostat and I don't know what else, for free. Rich said that he had checked the car out before selling it to me, so he felt responsible for this problem. 2 months later, the clutch cylinder was leaking a little, and I asked him to replace it. Again, no charge, not even for parts. Have an intermittant problem with missing at high speeds, Rich has worked on it, albiet with limited success. Won't charge me unless he knows it's fixed. What, this guy doesn't own a boat??

It is not often that one would RAVE about a mechanic...but Brigham Rebuilding deserves all the praise in the world!!! They specialize in VW repair, and we will never take our 1996 VW Golf anywhere else. Not only are their prices LESS than any major chain, the work and honesty that we receive at this shop is worth more than they charge (although I would like them to contiue with their low prices!!). Our car was in Grand Rapids MI when it suddenly lost power. We took it to a VW dealer....worst mistake EVER. They made all sorts of claims about the problems. The VW dealer told us the car was out of time, needed a new timing belt and a tune up....TO START. When I told them that we had a major tune up only 3 1/2 months ago, they told us that the shop who had done the work ripped us off!!! I called Rich at Brigham Rebuilding, and he called the VW dealer for us!! In the mean time we got our car to a German Import Shop and not only was the timing fine...it did not need a tune up and the problem was the catalitic converter! (sp?). Rich also called to follow up on the status of the car at the German Shop....CAN YOU IMAGINE YOUR SHOP DOING THIS???? These guys deserve a prize!!!!!!

This is a 5 year followup to my first review of Brigham's- I bought the 13 year old camper from them. I still have it, in fact it's in southern CA with my son on a road trip right now. I'm more pleased than ever with these guys, in fact, all I and my kids own are VW/Audis because that's what they work on. (How about that strategy-buy a car based on your mechanic?) My newest car is a 5 year old Golf, the other 3 are all 17 or 18 years old, so I visit them pretty often. They always, without exception, fix the problem quickly and cheaply. They tell me of things to look out for, and tell me when other things need doing. And if something doesn't need fixing, like when I wanted them to replace the van's CV joints, they tell me. They have fixed large mysterious problems for an amazingly low price (rewired my VW engine harness after an electical fire), and the one time they were stumped, they didn't charge me anything. (The Porsche specialist I ended up at charged me $500 for what was essentially a tuneup, so I think Rich and John actually fixed the problem which I think was a bad DME which they replaced. In fairness, that was my 87 Porsche 924S which is kind of an Audi and Rich warned me when I bought it.) Here's their address and phone number: 1244 Shappert Dr, Machesney Park, IL (815)282-9565 They are off the frontage road on the west side of 251 north of highway 173.

Have been to Rich & John for my Audis since early '80s. Very honest & knowledgeable. My wife bought a VW from a dealer based on information from them. She loves the car. We use Brigham's exclusively. They also maintain our daughter's Honda Civic. Cannot speak highly enough about Rich & John.
