1. Vince has had innumerable opportunities to rip me off, but has not taken advantage of them. I feel safe asking whether things need to be done, knowing that I will get an honest answer. 2. Vince does not look down on old cars and likes to keep them running. 3. Women definitely like taking their cars here. I went to a party and met two other women who sang his praises. 4. Vince is a Toyota specialist. He works on all foreign cars. He does not work on American cars.

Vince is great! He's been working on our cars since 1989 and he has never failed to give excellent service. We're leaving the area and we'll certainly miss his honesty and through, friendly manner. Yes, he is a Toyota specialist however he has worked on our old Oldsmobile with equal diagnostic accuracy and professionalism. (Oh, by the way, there's some pretty good thin crust pizza that can be bought by the slice next door.)

This is the best mechanic I have ever been to. He knows everything about Toyotas. He explains the problem well and doesn't force work on you if he knows it can wait. Once I brought my often dirty white car in for a tune up and when I picked it up, I found he had gone and gotten it washed for me! The only downside is that the shop is not near the El. Have a friend give you a ride or bring your bike.

Vince keeps my '85 Land Cruiser running nicely. Why either of us bother is beyond me, but if he ever gave up on me, I'd know the truck was doomed for sure. Always friendly [he remembers my name, not suprisingly] and work is done in a timely manner [he interruped his dinner once to come to the shop]. Never forces repairs, and never overcharges. Everything most people fear and loathe in mechanics is thankfully absent in Vince. I'll be sure to keep him in business with my heap.

Got this recommendation from this site and have been very happy ever since. Vince responds right away and many times I was able to bring the car in and get it fixed right away. He always explains what is wrong. Just don't be looking for a fancy shmancy waiting room here.

After going to Keiji (qv) for a few years, I decided to try Motor Care for my Toyota RAV4's 60K mile checkup based on reviews here. Partly, this was because I didn't want Keiji to try to talk me out of a new timing belt. Plus, they're much more convenient for me, right on the main-line Western Avenue bus route and just 1.5 blocks from the Addison Street bus, which will get you to the Brown and Blue 'L' lines with ease. Vince and his crew did a great job, running through a computer-generated list for this mileage interval and hitting every item on it. While replacing the timing belt they also replaced the fuel and water pumps, which I might have been skeptical of had they not saved the old parts for me to inspect -- both pumps were functional but had that vaguely crunchy feel of nearly-worn-out bearings. They also threw in an engine steam-cleaning and exterior wash for free. All in all, their tune-up so improved the way the engine runs it's almost like driving a new car. Strangely, in the two weeks following the service I had two electrical components die, first a headlight bulb and then the fuel pump/injector relay (which left my wife stranded for a few hours). This in a vehicle with a spotless record of no failures ever. I can't say this had anything to do with the service at Motor Care, since neither showed any signs of mishandling or water impingement, so I had to chalk it up as merely an odd coincidence. In general, Motor Care does great work at a fair price. My only caveat is that each time I take it in I have to have the interior detailed because it always winds up smelling like it's been to the mechanic's -- a funky mix of old gas, dirty oil, and stale cigarettes.

I went to Vince after having been seriously ripped off at another dealer. I have a 10 year old car and told him that I was skeptical about putting more money into it. He reviewed the bill from the other repair shop and showed me the numerous places I had been double charged. He explained it so thoroughly that I understood it well enough to make a coherent argument to the other shop who actually gave me a refund that amounted to about 10% of the bill! I was very grateful to Vince for the time he took to explain things to me. He then went on to fix the small problems I had at a reasonable price and to give me an opinion about what I could anticipate in the future. It is a pleasure to do business with him. Finally, a car mechanic who can be trusted.

Went on recommendation from a colleague and the comments on the site. I had just been quoted a thousand dollar plus to fix vibrating under braking from a Lexus dealer - Vince diagosied the issue, dropped me at the EL, called me 4 hours later with problem solved. Very reasonable price for work. I will be going back for service in the next couple of weeks. Capable shop and straight up customer service.
