I own a 1988 Audi 80 --great car, when it works. Expensive car when it's broken!! They only made it for 2 years and finding anyone who has worked on more than 3 is next to impossible!! This all equals many overpriced bills, screw-ups, and long times without my car! Those days ended when a co-worker suggested I try David. He ONLY WORKS ON AUDIs AND VWs!!! A God-send, I tell you! No advertizing, and I'm not sure if he's listed in the phone book--most of us came to him by word of mouth from very satisfied customers. No crew or much overhead--he does all of the work himself and works out of his parents' garage. He's been doing this since he was a teen (he's now in his late 30s-early 40s. So how do YOU find him? I'm not sure I want to tell you--right now when I call I can usually get in to see him within 1 to 3 days. But if you do manage to locate him, he is the greatest macanic you'll ever have!! He charges so close to cost, that it is standard to give him a tip (plus I think it helps when you really need to get in and out quickly!). Until now, I just went up to non-jerky looking people driving Auds and VWs and asked them if they liked their current machanic--if they said no, I told them about David. He says a few of them called and have actually started using him. P.S. He's one block away from: CTA, METRA, and an Enterprise Car Rental!! Talk about handy!

This guy operates out of his parent's townhouse and garage, so he's in the phone book -- as a residential line.

Boykin is the most honest (and competent) mechanic I've ever had: he explains what needs doing quickly, gives advice when asked without pushiness or knowitallism. He's been working on my '01 Jetta VR6 for the past three years and he's solved every issue -- electronic or mechanical -- on the first shot. I also appreciate his laid-back style: he'll let you know when something's worth worrying about (a trait you want in your mechanics and your pediatricians) and when you can hold off on repairs safely, which suggests a conscientiousness with others' time and money.

Dave is great. He's really straightforward and honest. He'll tell you what needs to be done, and what doesn't need to be done, and does a great job of fixing things as a fraction of the price of the dealer.

From 1990-2003, I owned 3 different used VW's, and David Boykin serviced all of them. He went with me on 2 occasions to check over the cars that I purchased. If I still owned a VW, I wouldn't take it to anyone else. He knows the VW, Porsche (any air cooled cars like the palm of his hand, he's a 25 + year EXPERT.) I'm not being paid to say this...he doesn't even know that I'm making these comments. I just recommended his services to a co-worker who has a 2007 VW Jetta.
