Bob Alley and his right-hand man (Dirk, or something close to that) are knowledgable about the mechanics of automobiles, and are willing to explain what needs to be done and why. They are good at diagnosis and do quality work. I had an intermittent/variable "growl" coming from the right side of the engine compartment of my Ford Windstar. It sounded like a bearing problem to me. Bob drove the van a short distance and agreed that it was from the belt-drive area, which is on the right side of the engine. Looking under the hood, he quickly noted the slight off-line way the water pump pulley was running and pointed it out to me. They replaced the water pump, which has a cast aluminum body and is mated to a steel tube with an O-ring seal between the two. The end of the steel was corroded away. He even correctly cited galvanic coupling as the cause of the corrosion. And, yes, the "growl" was gone. After I got the van home and parked in the garage overnight I noticed coolant leaked onto the floor. I took the van back to Alley and they reinstalled the pump, this time taking more particular care with the O-ring connection. This time it held and there are no more leaks. I was impressed with Bob's attention - without hesitation - to customer satisfaction, and with the knowledge he and Dirk displayed in their discussions. I recommend Alley Automotive to anyone in the Marshalltown area who needs car repair done.

Bob, is the best technician I have ever encountered. He was able to diagnose and fix the carburation problems on my customized 240Z easily. Several other 'ACE" mechanics had worked on this over two year period. BOB HAD IT RUNNING GREAT IN LESS THAN A WEEK!!!! He gets all my work from now on on all my vehicles. Sign me amazed and very satisfied...

Bob Halverson, owner and ASE Master Technician at Alley Automotive made our day when on a Friday, late afternoon we were headed home (240 miles away) when steam came rolling out under the passenger side hood of our 2007 Lincoln MKX. Soon after that the engine overtemp light was on and antifreeze was on the ground. Bob did an engine diagnostics test, determined that we had a problem with the fan drive, discussed the problem with us and gave us options for limping back home. He then filled us up with antifreeze ( with a spare jug to take on the road with us! ) printed us out a code error sheet to give to our mechanic once we got back home and sent us on our way. He was very willing to stay past closing that day to see that we were comfortable with getting back on the road. Excellent service!
