I have always had a good experience dealing with Grimes Auto. Gary use of mechanics, along with common sense makes for a good mix.

We were towed to Grimes Auto Service on a Sunday, after our '98 Ford Explorer (125,000 mi.) died on Interstate 75, still 600 miles from home. Early Monday AM they diagnosed our problems and called our motel room to describe them to us: a faulty thermostat caused engine to overheat, blowing head gaskets and splitting seams in radiator. He drove to our motel and picked me up so we could discuss options. Gary Grimes offered a couple solutions that his shop could do, from resurfacing heads and replacing the radiator to replacing the engine. He said neither was a great idea, because he couldn't honor his warrantee from 600 miles away. He helped us try and locate some local auto rental that would allow vehicle towing or even one-way service (he offered free storage for our Ford). Nothing was available. Finally he assigned an employee and a large diesel tow vehicle to haul our car, my wife and me, plus our dog, 600 miles to our doorstep for a reasonable fee. Grimes is honest and will go above and beyond the call to serve his customer. He is also a knowledgeable and skilled mechanic.

My two daughters and young grandson were traveling between Tampa and Chattanooga when they began having problems. Based on reading about Grimes on the Car Talk website, I took a chance and had them go to the shop. The folks were great; they checked the van and gave several options including that it would most likely be ok to continue driving to Chattanooga. The owner even test drove the vehicle before giving them the ok to continue on their trip. The folks at Grimes could easily have oversold my daughters on work that was not necessary.

Gary and Chris have been maintaining and repairing our cars for seven years now. They always offer alternatives and explain them. I regularly recommend them.
