Mike is the most trustworthy mechanic in town. You know you can trust a mechanic when you ask him to check the brakes, and he tells you that you DON'T need any work done on them!! His prices are very reasonable, he always explains problems, and will tell you the minimum amount of work you need to get by (rather the maximum, and the most expensive work!) If you are woman, you can be confident that he will not cheat you. I never want to move out of Athens because I'm afraid I'll never find another mechanic like him! (And I didn't answer the 'screw up' question because I've never had him screw up!) I've also never had him charge me for checking brakes, giving estimates, etc.

The first place I take my car for most repairs is Gary at Masters Garage, but Gary stays pretty booked up and doesn't do some things (tires, brakes, transmission). Therefore, when I need quick fix (oil changes, etc.) or tires and brake work, I go immediately to Mike. He is currently at the Epps Bridge location. The most important thing to me is that I can ask Mike if I really need new tires, and he'll tell me that I don't, that I do, or that I will within the next X months. He always remembers me when I come in, which also lends to my trust.
