I have taken cars to Mutt for approx. 15 years - first a 1990 Ford Taurus and then a 2003 Buick Regal. I'm just sorry he doesn't work on European cars, so I can't take my VW in. I think I've always gotten a fair deal and a good repair, and I can't recall ever having to take a car back because the problem wasn't fixed the first time. Although my husband rolls his eyes when I try to talk about how cars work, Mutt has always taken the time to explain the problem and the repair in terms that even this liberal arts major can understand, at least long enough for me to get home and repeat it to my husband, who nods his head like he agrees with what I was told.

I go here first, always. When I have an issue they don't work on (like a transmission), I ask for their recommendation, and go there. This is the most honest shop in town, and they always steer me to other honest shops. They don't just do electrical work either. When a graduate student I work with, female and not knowledgeable about cars, was broken in to and considerable damage done, I told her to go there first. Let them fix what they do, and then follow their advice for the rest. One thing that was damaged was the steering column, when the thieves popped the ignition out. Mutt said he could arrange the repair for her, but he was just going to call someone who comes around in a truck and specializes in that sort of thing. He gave her the truck guy's number so she could call herself and save $50. Best shop in town. Bar none.

I can't express the deep appreciation I have for Joey (the most honest and competent mechanic I've ever known) and his associates, Mutt and Mrs. Mutt, the warm and upstanding senior couple who run this down-home company. Actually, these folks are so honest and caring that I would trust them with anything worthwhile in my life. My wife and I have been taking our cars to them for years, and always find it a pleasure dealing with them. Joey has kept my 1988 Olds Ciera running beautifully as the odometer has just surpassed the 150,000 mile mark, and patiently explains the intricacies of his repairs, even when saddled with a full garage of cars awaiting attention. He is always available to give advice over the phone, and has excellent detective qualities when it comes to figuring out the cause of numerous symptoms. I wholeheartedly recommend this shop to the listeners

Someone told me I needed a new compressor for my air conditioner. I took it in to them and they found a seal or something that needed replacing and some freon. I got out of there for under $150 and my air worked great. Another time, I had a terrible hesitation problem on my minivan. It was no fun when making a left turn in traffic. The dealer, who was also excellent, couldn't ID the problem. Mutt installed a new fuel filter for less than $20 and my car ran like new. What's more they showed me how to do it myself. Love these guys.
