They are as honest as it gets. They will even recommend not doing some work if they think you can wait to have it done without damaging your auto. They get repeat business which puts them ahead of the guys who bilk america to get the extra $200.

My father has been going to Ed Larcom since 1968,the year I was born. His shop is only run by him, his sons and now one grandson. From the first car I owned to the car I own now,and all the cars in between have been serviced by the Larcom Family. Ed is now the grandfather of the operation. Then you have Ricky, Ted, and Al all Ed's sons. They are the best general garage around South Tampa. And they are the only ones I will allow to work on my cars. Give them a call and find out for yourself. (813)839-3215 James Davidson.

Ed Larcom was my grandmother's mechanic, and his garage has been working on our family cars since the 70's. I know when I go to Larcom that I'll be given an honest assessment, good repair options, and a decent price. Labor there may cost a bit more, but I don't mind paying a little extra for reliable craftsmanship and honesty. If you're buying a used car, they'll assess it for you free of charge. Larcom's Garage is head's above the rest in South Tampa. And if they don't fix, they'll send you to someone equally honest who does. Larcom continues to restore my faith in mechanic-humanity! Give them a try -- you won't be disappointed.

If I have to leave my car there, the city bus is a block or two away, which is o.k., except there are dogs around the area occasionally and I am afraid of dogs that are roaming around. I have been bringing my cars there for years. They have been very patient with my clunkers and did not hesitate to tell me to get rid of it which eventually I had to do.

I moved to Tampa, FL in the summer of 2006. When my car didn't start for the first time, I took it to the mechanic across the street from my apartment complex (Ice Cold Air - they are on Westshore and Euclid; DO NOT GO THERE!). THEY TOLD ME MY STARTER WAS BROKEN AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED FOR $600 (I called my Mazda dealership and a starter is only $300; $380 TOTAL with labor). I took my car to Ed Larcom's Garage (my tower recommended them); when I told them a previous mechanic said my starter was dead, they informed me the starter should be fine as my vehicle is a 2004 model (these guys could have EASILY taken advantage of me and just agreed to the previous assessment and charged me hundreds for new starter). I left my car with Ed, and 50 bucks later, my car was fixed! (and it's been running great ever since!) So if it wasn't the starter, what was the problem you ask? The connections to the battery needed to be fixed! ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE STARTER. I just wanted to post this because I'm sure a lot of people would agree with me that it is VERY DIFFICULT to find an HONEST mechanic; now that I've found one, I wanted to share it everyone else. I hope this post will bring new business to Ed as he runs an honest shop and a great business.

Ricky and his crew are wonderful! His dad, Ed, who started the business still comes in to work on cars most days. Ricky, his brother and father all live in close proximity to the shop and are very responsive. Once he fixed our car and we were unable to pick it up before closing time on Friday. He let us pick it up after hours. When we went to pick it up, he took a few minutes to talk to us about the repair while he was walking his dog (after having cleaned up to take his Wife out). The few times we have had a problem with a repair, such as a defective part, etc., he has been happy to fix it at no additional charge. I highly recommend this shop. If there were ever a reason to leave Tampa, I would have to give it extra consideration as I may not be able to find a mechanic like him somewhere else. To top it off, even my wife, who generally hates mechanics, is comfortable talking to him about what repairs have been done.
