I have moved often and found a good share the mechanics to keep through this Mech X-Files. All Import Tech were not here. I am adding them, but since I found the shop they have treated our Hondas and us with great care and professionalism. One of our cars is high in miles and high in years and other mechanics had proposed costly maintenance. Julio and Jose take the time to show and explain de difference between necessary repairs, necessary maintenance, what can wait and what may never be done at all. In my experience they do everything they can for the customer, it seems to me their prices and quality make them competitive. Generally they are able to give rides within a to Dadeland, Sunset, towards the Gables and such. I highly recommend All Import Tech. All Import Tech.

So, anyway, I live in Key West (I know, horrible for me), and the mechanics down here, well, they like boating, or fishing. But, they are not so motivated when it comes to working on cars. "Everything is fine, Bubba". Hmmm. The time came when a disturbing knock came to the engine and I immediately went to my mechanic. Without looking under the hood, he announces that my car is dead - the engine's blown. Time to drive it into the Gulf. After much reflection, I decided to look at having it rebuilt, but in Miami - not here. Found Julio and his shop on this site, in fact. A day after I dropped the car off with Julio he called and to make sure he had the right car, becasue according to him the engine did not have to be rebuilt at all. It was in bad shape, he reported, but not that bad. Turns out that the problem was that my mechanic had been using regular oil instead of synthetic oil (shame on me for not asking to look at the containers). As a result of my changing the oil every 7-9k miles, it seems that I had a serious issue of oil sludge throughout the engine. Julio took the unorthodox approach of flushing the engine to clean it out, and of course replaced most of the oil related parts. He kept me informed all along the way, making sure to discuss the approach he was recommending, as well as the alternatives. When it came to whether or not to change the timing belt, he also laid out all of the options very clearly, as well as my costs. All up front. And of course the other great thing is that he guaranteed his work for 12 months. It was refreshing to deal with such a professional, caring mechanic. It is just not something we see in the Keys. Now, for any major work that I need to have done, you can bet I will be going 120 miles out of my way to get my car to Julio. Thanks Julio!
