Add me to the list of Preferred's happy campers. I was in mourning when my wonderful mechanic of 12 yrs retired, and left me & my 1986 Firebird for Noo Joisey. Went to someone from the Yellow Pages, who overcharged me in the most commercially shameless manner. Then I went to cartalk.com and found Frank Weiss at Preferred. What a difference. He knew all the "nuances" of a vintage Firebird (and its vintage driver), installed a new fuel pump, re-fixed what the Yellow Pages guy had screwed up, and for a whole lot less. Very fair prices, knowledgable, clean bright shop, and a truly nice guy. Now I won't have to give up Scarlett the Firebird, or move to Noo Joisey....

I called on Thursday and they said they could get me in Monday I brought it in on Monday and they knew the peoblem and had a price in less then thirty min. Then they had the work done was only 90 min. I picked this guy because of the review here and what everybody says came true. I will use them again.

The two proprieters, Bob and Frank, are former aviation mechics from Eastern Airlines. When the airline was grounded, they opened this shop. I have affectionatly referred to Bob and Frank as the "Click and Clack" of South Florida. I would send anybody to this shop in prefernce to going to an automotive dealer. Not only is the price more reasonable than most dealers, more important, I feel that Bob and Frank take greater care of their customers' needs than a typical dealer. THEY NEVER TRY TO SELL ME SOMETHING I DO NOT NEED. This is something that happened to me about 5 years ago when I had my car in New York. My engine was missing and I needed a new ignition wire set. A very famous Ford dealer located on the South Shore of Long Island tried to sell me the same services I had Bob and Frank do just two months earlier, speciffically, a transmission fluid and filter change, a new fuel filter, and a radiator flush. The service writeup man must have made a funny face when I told him that I just had those services done (by Preferred Automotive) shortly before leaving Florida for my annual vacation. Summing up give PREFERRED AUTOMOTIVE TWO THUMBS UP!

Frank bought his partner out a couple of years ago - has another excellent mechanic working with him now. Very honest, very knowledgable. Highly recommended.

I went to the shop today after finding the recommendations on Car Talk and needed to find out what was going on with my a/c. I called this morning (8/11/08) and spoke with Frank Weiss, the owner, and he told me to bring it in today. I left work and went expecting the worst news about the a/c. Frank took the time to put car freon in the car and inject some oil into the condenser to try to stop the clicking noise. He explained that it may work and may not or could come back in a couple of days or even that may take care of it. I knew I had a leak in the freon, (I had been told before) but he was so thorough in explaining it and even was able to show me the leak with the whole light thing and glasses, but didn't push me to fix it immediately. He suggested I wait and see how long before it leaked out again. I asked how much it would cost and he sat down, made some calls and gave me a more than fair price for fixing it and said when I am ready to come back and he'd take care of it. While I was waiting for the quote, I had my oil changed. They were very reasonably priced and seemed like a good man. He definitely has my business in the future and I would recommend them to anyone in the Hollywood area.

I've taken my car to Frank several times and always feel confident they are taking good care of my car. The price is reasonable, and they don't try to up sell anything to me.

I am skeptical of auto mechanics in general. I feel they usually try repairing by swapping out perfectly good parts in a trial and error effort. As a result, I have become a pretty good mechanic. This time I had to have a garage do the work, because I lacked the logistics. Because of this website, I chose Preferred Automotive. They were perfect. Great attitude. Great service. Clean shop. Quick work and a price that was about fifty percent less than I estimated. I was fully satisfied to the point where I wrote my first positive review ever! Good job PF!

I had a intermittent leak, but I didn't know what was leaking and was always short on cash. One payday, I decided I couldn't put it off any longer and remembered their name from the Car Talk Mechanic Files. I pulled in, went to the office, and got great customer service from the girl and the owner. Frank explained everything, answered the questions in non-Car&Driver-speak. When I paid, which was costly to me, but may have not been so high had I fixed the problem earlier, Frank went over other problems he noticed and how long I have to get them fixed. There was NO PUSHING, NO HASSLING, NO SCHEMING, and NO DOUBTS on my part. It was an overall good experience, and I would recommend them to others.
