Over the course of 9 years working on my cars (Mercury Sable, Toyota Corolla, Volvo 240 Wagon and 2000 Honda Odyssey), the principal mechanic at Talleyville Sunoco, Steve Handy, has proven to be completely trustworthy, dependable, thorough, and responsive. He never repairs something that is not broken, and the cost is always completely reasonable. He has many years of experience to that he draws upon for his recommendations. A skilled, intelligent and trustworthy mechanic is a very valuable thing, and Steve Handy is all that - the best I've ever worked with.

My 1995 Toyota Camry was diagnosed by the dealership with a badly corroded radiator, cracked axel boots, and various oil leaks - yikes! They wanted a whopping $1800 to keep my baby on the road...and suggested I consider getting a new car. I scoured this website for recommended mechanics, came across Talleyville Sunoco and promptly called Steve Handy for assistance. After looking at the car, we discussed the necessary repairs and he completed the job that same day for about $1000. Three months later, I'm happy to report I've had no problems, including no more oil leaks on the garage floor. I will definitely be returning to Steve Handy for future service.

Steve Handy and his associates are outstanding mechanics and great people to deal with. They have always been honest and open about problems with my vehicles. I was referred to Steve quite a few years ago about a problem I was having with a manual transmission. I had 2 separate transmission shops give me a quote of between $1200 and $1800 to replace the transmission. I declined as it was an older car and probably not worth it. On a friend's recommendation, I stopped to see Steve. I explained the situation to him. He said he would check it out. I left the car and went across the street to have breakfast. When I returned an hour or so later, Steve informed me that the manual shifter was broken. He told me the replacement part was already ordered and being delivered from a local supplier. The job would cost $200 and he would have it finished in a couple of hrs. Needless to say, Steve and his associates are the only people who work on my cars. I have been receiving the same honesty and quality work ever since!!

I started using the Talleyville Sunoco based on recommendations from Car Talk and my in-laws. The shop has always given me straight answers and takes the time to explain what needs to be done. I'd highly recommend them to anyone in the area.

My mother started taking her Honda Accord to Steve at Talleyville Sunoco upon the recommendation of a friend several years ago. Even though I live in New York City, I started bringing my Honda Civic to Talleyville Sunoco as well because the prices are so good and I feel that I can trust them. Steve and the others tell me exactly what I need to fix, and what can wait (i.e. it's not a safety issue or it won't damage the car). I've never experienced a mechanic who didn't try to sell me every repair possible - probably because I am a woman and know nothing about cars. But Steve doesn't try to push unnecessary repairs on me. Now, we are bringing my boyfriend's Nissan Murano to Steve as well. The Nissan dealer in NYC told him he needed $6500 worth of repairs. We took the car to Steve and he identified only three of the things on the dealer's list as being necessary, and is charging us half the price for those three repairs!!
