Reviewers Comments:
Most honest guy you will ever encounter. will tell you exactly the way it is, will NOT charge you a penny more than what it's worth, and will stand behind his work 100%. absolutely unbelievable fellow. small garage, his own place, kind of out of the way for most people, but if you can get to him, you will save yourself a whole load of trouble and money. he knows a bunch of other good mechanics as well that will do the job if he doesn't have the skills or the time. nice guy too ! I wish there were more like him. all my friends go there now.

My Saab had a tricky intermittent problem. Andy not only figured out what was wrong, he made sure he tracked down the exact cause to avoid the unnecessary replacement of parts. In an unrelated situation, after he had replaced failed parts, he took the time to explain how they were supposed to work and why they had failed. Not only does he get the job done (at reasonable rates) he is very considerate

I have a 1985 BMw with over 250,000 miles on it. Over the past three years Andy and I have been working together on restoring this car to the best it can be. He has been nothing but helpful with all my needs and reasonable in price to boot. I would reccomend him to anyone!

I work for Andy and was just reading the survays regarding the shop and the experiance the customers have had working with us. We would like to thank all of our customers (New and Old). We greatly appreciate all of the work that is brought into our shop. I would like to mention one thing that I do not know if anybody mentioned. Regarding our distance to public transporation We are very close to the New York Ferry and any customer that needs a ride to and from the ferry will gladly be given one. Also a few blocks up the street is the bus stop for anybody who may needs it. Once again THANK YOU for all the business you have brought us. ASC automotive

Andy quickly and correctly figures out what's wrong. He then is completely
willing to explain the problem, even to a totally machine-challenged person.
Problems started when a neighborhood gasoline station did the 60K mile
tune-up and put in new, non-platinum, spark plugs last summer. Car ['99
Maxima] very quickly began to "buck" and so I reurned [twice] but computer-
analysis didn't give a specific code no did the road-test give them a clue. So I
checked with this board's recommendations and went to Andy.
Specs for this model, so I later learned from Andy, state spark plugs don't
need to be changed until 90K and ONLY platinum plugs are to be used. Andy
replaced the new non-platiumn plugs [Andy said they were very good plugs
just not what the specs required]. Problem abated for 98% of the time. When I
returned [for the 2% problem] computer-reads & test drive showed nothing
but this week [11 months after this saga began] the check-engine light came
on and a computer-read showed a code 1320. Andy read manufacture's
notices and other data-base reports and concluded new ignition coils were
needed [Nissan says coils could well be a problem BUT their new coils are
much better...]. After [six] new coils all's running very well.

Have been going to this shop for years. Prior to starting
this shop, Andy Schranck worked for the Volvo dealer. He
has all the competence without any of the dealer's
priciness or rigidity. We have two old Volvos so he sees
us a lot, but going to Andy has been a real money saver
for us over owning a new car. He is a great person and
always makes sure everything is done right and fair to the
customer. We will never need another mechanic as long as
Andy is around. I would bring him any make vehicle
without hesitation.

I've never found a shop before that I felt I could trust. I
was introduced to the owner Andy through a friend and I can
never imagine going anywhere else. It's not the most lavish
shop in the world, but they do good work much cheaper than
my dealer or gas stations I've been to. I'll be back.

My car started overheating on the way to the ferry. The
check engine light went from green to fire engine red in a
matter of minutes. Stranded, I left it on the side of the
road and left a voice mail for Andy as I had ot head into
work. He not only located the car, had it towed and then
picked me up 4 hours later with a working car, door-to-door
service, and no mark-up on the towing or extraneous fees.
Wow. Great service, high integrity, and fair prices.

Been bringing my BMW to the dealer since it was new, and I had finally had it with being ripped off. A friend recommended ASC, and I couldn't have been happier.

Always honest, I went in with a sunroof leak thinking I
needed the gasket replaced; Andy told me to look at the
sunroof drains and, voila, I unplugged them, and no more leak.
I am pretty sure that the Lexus dealer would have done
something very different. No charge for free advice and
great people, what more can you ask for in a garage.

Brought in my Volvo with the check engine light on. Andy hooked it up to the
computer and found an error in the thermostat...Then he turned off the check
engine light and told me to take it home and see if it happens again.
He said it could have been a "hiccup', and it was. When does that ever happen?
At the dealer I would have had 3 parts replaced.

Took my '97 Subaru to them due to a check engine light. They
took the code, it was a knock sensor issue, and told me to
just drive around until it either happened again or
corrected itself. Not a penny out of my pocket. They then
gave me advice for making sure it passes the next NJ
inspection. Finally, they looked at my clutch resistance
spring which broke, a $5 part which no one would give me
the time of day to analyze.
A+ and will bring the car to them every time, which you
should do with your car/truck.
