Reviewers Comments:
Rolf Glitzner - owner/operator since 1966. Need a real German to work on your German vehicle? Rolf doesn't get much more authentic than this! After several mechanics across the US who tried to fix our problem, Rolf nailed it the first minute he looked at it. Unfortunately we needed a re-built transmission (for our '91 VW Westfalia) but at least he got it right the first time AND he insisted that I completely understand what he'd done and how he'd done it. See, I'm the female part of this Westy's ownership and I was super impressed that Rolf took the time to explain it all to me. He takes two weeks a year to fish for Marlin down in Cabo . . . otherwise, I don't think he ever leaves his shop . . .

First, I'll say that I'm the kind of car owner that will
limp along because I HATE dealing with mechanics. I found
Rolf from this website and I was very happy with the result.
My 1995 Jetta wasn't starting when the engine was warm.
Rolf fixed it in less than 24 hours and the tuneup he did
was great. "Boris" hasn't run so well since he was brand
new. I dropped the car off at noon and it was ready by
9:00am the next day. He showed me the parts that were
replaced and explained how to prevent the problem in the
future. I will definitely be using this mechanic in the future!

Rolph who owns the shop is very helpful, honest and friendly. He replaced my clutch and explained to me what he was going to do and showed me the old parts (I know it is the law but I haven't had other mechanics do that before). As a women, I felt he treated me fairly and with respect. His shop also was super convenient for me cause it was only two blocks away from my work. Although I hope there is nothing else I need to fix on my car anytime soon, I will definitely take it to City Automotive next time.

I was so happy to see City Automotive listed here. Rolf kept my 1986 Jetta alive for three years without ever once asking for a pound of my flesh. When the Jetta finally died I automatically started shopping for another Volkswagen so I wouldn't have to find a new mechanic. BTW, the shop is pretty close to lots of public transportation, including BART and MUNI.

Rolf is a cool German fellow who doesn?t have the most
engaging personality; but, he knows older German cars
upside-down! The garage is in the Tenderloin (a seedy part
of San Francisco), don?t go alone if that bothers you;
moreover the area is a bit dangerous. In any case, Rolf
treats most people well enough, and will treat your car
even better. He worked on my Porsche 914 for years; now I
have a Porsche 911 and have Aldo (Aldo Performance Motors)
service it.
