The Check Engine Light came on in our 2000 Volvo S70 GLT. Set forth below is what the dealer (McKevitt in Berkeley) told us vs. what Ali at Montclair did: Dealer: Must replace Master Air Flow Sensor - $540 Montclair: Agreed. Replaced for - $344 Dealer: Must replace ABS Control Unit - $920 Montclair: Wanted to 2x check connections b/c faulty connection could set off that check engine warning; if this work needed, would be $781. Confirmed no problem w/ unit & no need to replace! Dealer: Ignition Switch - Despite raising w/ Dealer while car under extended warranty, they told my wife not to worry about it, then after out of warning, said must replace for $690. Montclair: Agreed should be replaced; will be ~$500 Dealer: Our car has $103k and I inquired about the 105k Service; I'd like to replace the water pump while they have everything opened up. Dealer's price for all that was ~$1,700! Model Garage: (I stopped by there on way to dealer) $1,300 w/ water pump change. Montclair: $1,000 (price includes changing water pump). Ali also recommended I wait until the car is actually at $105k since there's no point spending that much money prematurely. Ali is awesome! Montclair will have our Volvo business from this point forward.
